what do you think about keeper clips on tow hooks?

working on installing on my procomp tow hooks and they came with the keeper clips, dont know if i should put them on or if they would just get in the way. What do ya'll think about them????

I would think they would get in the way too much unless you rarely do pulls from them...

They're nice for keeping the tow strap atached when there is no load on it. Some clips I have seen are kind of sharp though. If that's the case, I'd leave 'em off.

Well not much until recently.
IN Moab I cant remember who but one of the trucks I was with got into a very steep climb situation and was stuck, It may have been brother of Jefe??

Anyways when we went to hook up the strap the angle of the strap was such that the retainer was required tohold the strap on the hook, we even had to bend it to make it hold better.
Not saying that once the strap was tought it was still needed but it was close, so close that I questioned even using the hook as a tow point. The retainer added that little piece of mind.
If you have them keep them, its rare you need a strap anyways so they dont get in the way that much..

I ususally like to use them if I am using those bolt on hooks simply becasue somone doesn't have to stand there and hold pressure on the tow strap until it gets tightened up. It also allowes for some light jerking and stretching of the strap, which make the straps double effective. (Boomerang effect - like a rubber band - that's what the straps are built to do) You can't do that with a simple hook.

Actually, on all my stuff, I have gravitated away from the hooks entirely to D rings and/or clevises. They stay put no matter what.

If the hooks are mounted pointing down, they are almost a must. If they are mounted pointing up (very difficult on an X) or parallel to the ground they aren't as necessay.
