well crazy boy...

The File You Are Looking For Is Inaccessible.

try now..

the 2 circles will be for 2 12" inverted M5 diamond audio subs. the center will have my amps and crossovers.

what do you guys think bout inverted subs?? tried searching for info on it, but came out dry. pros/cons of inverting subs??

Talk to Expo5.0

He is your man when it comes to things like that.... He has a thread where he is building a box like that...

Expo's Box

Check that one out....

you'll be fine having the inverted subs..... pros=looks
cons=phase may be out of alignment...but bass is not directional so no worries unless they are your mids as well....

hows that box fitting in the back of the ex? or is it going in something else?

havent calculated the dimensions yet. and yes it will go into the ex. just did the design aspect. if i invert my subs, does the box volume need to be the same as if i were to install the subs regularly?

No, the box volume is calculated using the size of the speaker as a factor. Meaning the speaker displaces air inside the box when mounted normal, when inverted you are actually adding airspace.

Also many amps and headunits allow you to flip the phase, just for the purpose of mounting it inverted.

no, you get to save the space the displacement of the sub usually takes. There shouldn't be any problem with the phase etc. so long as its just subs. they will perform just like they would normally.

also, i always start with the dimensions of the explorer in mind so that i know what i can and can not do.

you have 42" between the wheel wells, 52 when you go above them, and more if you want to go out to the glass. The top of the seats is 19 inches or so (but it varies as you go right to left), and the total depth i'm not sure on, but my box is 26" deep and i have roughly 10 more inches behind it.

my experience is that most of the designs i want to do theoretically don't quite fit into the space i'm trying to put them in.

also, you may want to construct your box out of more than just 3/4" mdf. i had to just so my subs wouldn't flex the box to begin with, but inverting subs so that all the weight is directly on one side of the box adds stress as well.

Expo5.0 I think we are both saying the same thing.

If you are going off the manu.'s reccomended enclosure dimensions, and you invert the speaker you are hurting the airspace calculation.

Inverting the speaker adds airspace to the enclosure, everything in front of the cone is now added to the volume of the box.

Meaning you cant just invert a speaker and assume the same box dimensions will work. Once you take the speaker out of the box you are throwing off the calculations.....

very true- the "dish" of the cone is actually adding to the dimensions of the box. you need to totally recalculate everything so that it is correct.

hmm..is there a site that can help me calculate my box dimensions??

i know of one but i dont think itl do the curves and stuff like the angles

i have a program that will spit out the ideal box size for spl and sq enclosures based on the specs of the sub etc. (but most manufacturers do that for you anyways) as for actually telling you what size to do the box they expect you to just do the math. If you want to talk about it i'll gladly help, or if you get on my good side i'll even design one for you in the style/shape you want with the right dimensions

expo, whats the program called? heres a pic of my current box. It was taken during the construction.. the slanted board on the left is where my amp is located. there's another one on the right side as well for my other amp. all is covered with grey carpet.

quick ohm question..

my sub right now is a DVC with both coils at 4 ohms. i wired them in parallel to get 2 ohms.

now, if want another sub with the same specs, how can i wire both subs to get the optimal performance?

whats the optimal performance of your amp, 2 ohms? is it 1 ohm stable? or one of those bizarre ones that crank out the most at 4 ohms?

2ohm

argh damn you shouldn't have gotten DVC's then, cause there isn't a safe way to wire them together. if you got another one wired at 2 ohms and wired them in parallel then it drops to 1 ohm (some amps are stable at this impedance its just not recommended) so what amp is it?. If you wire them in series then it will bump back up to 4 ohms. would it be possible to get a second amp for the second sub? i have heard of people using in-line resistors to get the impedance right but its hard to find ones that can handle that much juice.

well the 2ohm amp i have now isnt really cutting it.. somethings wrong with the rca hook ups on the amp..

now.. let me rephrase my question with that in mind.. say i have those 2 subs. both DVC's whats a good amp at one ohm? each sub can handle 500watts rms.
