We eventually made our way to where Hale creek enters Harrison lake. We had lunch and came out the hard way, which was my little surprise for Carson.
Well the open diffs were causing him some trouble on this trail because it was steep with a lotta loose rocks and dirt.
Then we got to a part that he couldn`t quite get up.

looks innocent enough, but he couldn`t get past that rock up ahead of him. He tried getting a run at it a couple of times.

Until all of a sudden a big "bang" was heard. Every time he backed up and started again the bang would happen. I ended up towing him past that point but he soon realised that when he had it in 4x4 it would catch in the front end and then make that horrible bang!

We had a look at the u-joints and they seemed okay, there was no noise in 2wd but he did say he heard a clunk on one corner afterwards.

I`m thinking he has broken one of his auto hubs, but we thought we would post here to see what others think. It drove home fine in 2wd so we`re actually hoping it is a hub and not something el$e.

Oh here`s a pick just before I put his first tow strap on!

Sure sounds like auto hubs to me. Time for the warn manuals :)

Yep sounds like and auto hub to me as well... If he desides to go with manual. I buy his busted Auto hubs. ;)

I'm hoping that it's just a hub, if so that wouldn't be too bad. Kris what would you want with a broken hub? My girlfriend wants me to put another auto just in case she ever needs 4wd??? I'll have to work on her. Nice pics James.

Carson

I rebuild Auto Hubs and Sell them.

Well I did it I ordered these today. Kris I'll be in touch.

lol, I just realized something. That was Your first run with the new tow hooks on the front, wasn`t it Carson?

Sure enough you needed a tow, co-incedence or what?

Yep it's all the tow hooks fault lol. They worked great though.

Like em all you want, the thing that sucks about them is their ability to fair right when you need them the most.

Dont get me wrong all D35 TTB hubs suck, the autos just suck that much more......

:)

You like them because they make you $$$.
Here in CO I have a guy who will trade me manual hubs for each set of auto's I bring him. I think I have 6 trail spares now........

Yeah BU t I take even the Broken ones... I know what make them Work and Why they Fail... I have a Set of Autos on My Navajo. And because they make me money too...

Yeah we aired down. It wasn`t really that much of an obstacle. It was the shock of the one tire spinning then suddenly finding traction that blew one of them up.

Which brings up a good quality about traction devices!
I have a rear locker that enabled me to just crawl nice and slow up that part. Lockers not only get you traction, they make it easier on your drive parts.

Carson was throwing huge rocks out behind him when he was giving it to try to get his momentum working.

Carson has more troubles today

Carson and I went for a run today to try out his new manual hubs. We went to east Stave lake area and got onto a logging road that has a long steep hillclimb.

We stopped for a quick break at a crossroads and I noticed a lot of liquid dripping f4rom under his engine. Closer inspection showed that it was transmission fluid just pouring out from the bell housing area!
OH NO! Carson`s trip was pretty well over, it could be the seal on the shaft or something, anyway it was a bad leak!

Here he is contemplating how much of a bummer this was:

We decided it would be best to coast back down the mountain as far as he could, keeping it in nuetral to avoid ruining the tranny. When we got as far as we could we jumped in my truck and hit the closest store, out on the main road. We stocked up on tranny fluid, called a tow truck, and went back to fill the tranny and get back to the pavement where the tow truck would meet us.
