I have a '96 Limited 2WD and was thinking of upgrading my HU. But which on to get is the question? I was leaning toward either a Kenwood, Pioneer or Alpine.

Just woundering which One You Prefer and why. Give Model, Price and place where you got it from would be nice.

My X has a JBL w/6 CD changer and amp in the back with the sub.

and yes i did a search in the form but the post i found were about 6months old and some of those stereos mention aren't even being sold anymore....

Thanks for you help guys. :us:

Kenwood all the way.

Alpine is second.

Kenwood excelon head units rule, reliable, powerfull, feature packed, and crstal clear sound.
Head unit is the most important part of the whole system.

What kind do you have? (Model)

i had a kenwood kdc-mpv622 in my firebird and it's waitin to get put in my truck. i got it for about 250 but i think now they're a whole lot less. i got it bc it plays mp3s too and it looks cool, u can change the background color as well as the button colors. chicks always liked that lol. but the quality was awesome, and it was sirus ready if i ever wanna go satellite...

I have had many Kenwood decks. Right now I have the 759, its a couple years old but was a steal of a deal, I never pay full price if I can help it.
for 5 years I had the X91 which is a MD head unit, but it didnt read MP3 format.
I have a Kenwood music keg which is controlled bythe deck and I couldnt be happier.
10G (up to 90) of MP3's and WAV files at my fingertips along with the CDR Mp3 deck, its great. I have the same unit in my boat too :)

I like Alpine. I've tried most of the higher-end brands and Alpine came out on top. I run an Alpine CDA-9835 right now and couldn't be happier.

For me It's always been in this order:

Pioneer (Premier, preferably)
Alpine
Kenwood

At the VERY bottom of the list would be the Sony Xplod decks, well maybe a Jensen or Pyle is farther down the list, but you get the idea.

I used to have a 7500MP Pioneer for about a year until I got my Alpine CDA-9831. I will say, the sound quality out of the Alpine is alot better.

Only thing I like from Kenwood is there double-din touchscreen. Pioneer, 7000 series and above are the only thing I'd buy. And Alpine, at this moment in time, 9827 and above at least.

Alpine and then Panasonic

Both have great AM radio sections which are useful if one likes talk radio

1. Clarion
2. Pioneer
3. Alpine

Alpine.

I don't have a preference for brands. I get what I like. I do have a set of rules though:

1-No flashing lights, screen savers, or any display that belongs on a spaceship
2-No fold down faces. Makes NO sense to me to have to wait for the face to retract before I can put in a CD
3-It's needs to have a real volume knob, or at least a knob that kinda functions like one.
4-Needs a simple layout. I don't want to go through 5 menus to adjust the bass.

All of these are getting harder to come by now days. :(

Damn! You're as picky about your HU as I am about my women ;)

I like the flip-down. It gives a cleaner look and if someone peers into your car they won't see a CD slot, perhaps thinking stock and moving on.

Well JVC wasn't mentioned, but I've had 2 and they've both been great. First one was the AR-200, which is still in my sisters car, I got it for about 120$ and i've seen it as low as $100 online places. It was decent with a cd-slot, no mp3's which she didn't want and a blue lit screen with all red buttons, except for a little button i 4get what it did it was a light green. And i just recently upgraded my car with a JVC kd-g400. This one is sirius ready, 6 cd changer hook up in the back, plays mp3s, folds down not motorized though. And for the time i've had it it's pretty good. I got it off an ebay store for 132$ shipped JVC's not really ever mentioned, but i'm a fan of the headunits. So maybe you might wanna add that on to your consideration list?? just my .02
