Hey there,

I need to know what this little hose is. When I recently changed my pcv valve, I noticed this hose just kinda hanging out, not connected to anything...

1- Shot of the engine... hose in question circled in yellow:

2- Zoom in a little bit... hose in question circled in yellow (notice the opening directly to the left of the hose):

3- Here I am holding it... showing the end of the hose...

4- And here's where I believe the hose is supposed to go... it fits in there and the hose was pre-bent so it would fit in there...

Now my question- now that I've popped it back into that opening, the engine seems to be running stronger with less hesitation. What on earth is this little hose? Is it vacuum related? I can't figure it out.

Thank you for your time.

Plug it in to the vac motor next to it

It seems to run better because you've partially stopped the vacuum leak of the disconnected house.

The previous post is correct. The hose should be plugged into the back of the IMT diaphragm (the tapered black body in the lower right corner of your last picture).

Hey, thanks a lot guys. Really, I appreciate it.

IMT... intake manifold tuning? I'm guessing the hose that I plugged back into the IMT device goes to some sort of sensor that monitors air intake and adjusts the valve accordingly? Am I even close to being right?

Intake Manifold Tuning, correct.

Vacuum (the line you are reconnecting) pulls on the diaphragm in the cone which moves the rod that actuates the flap/valve in the intake.

You may notice that the motor sounds different in the upper rpm range with the vacuum line connected. This is due to the altered intake air path.

Don't know how much it helped the breathing, because Ford deleted the IMT from the intake after '98.

Great, thanks again for your help. :)
