1997 Explorer, 4.0L OHV, A/T. I am assuming this thing is a freeze plug/expansion plug but I can't seem to find it listed anywhere so I wonder if it's called something else. It measures about 2 1/8" or maybe 2 3/16" across. It's at the back of the block, in the top center. Link to picture, the place where this thing goes is pretty much right in the middle of the picture: https://www.dropbox.com/s/qgwthrgt5homgu0/IMG_0883.JPG?dl=0

If it is a freeze plug, you should be able to goto a napa with those measurements to buy a couple if you're not entirely sure on the size. Like $1.50 a piece.

But to me that looks like the end of your camshaft, and you're missing some sort of seal.

Oh wow, you got it man, thanks! I've been looking for engine freeze plugs and couldn't find this thing but as soon as I started looking for camshaft stuff, BAM! There it was, it's a camshaft end plug. Thanks again!
