Where does each end come from. And by your picture, is the little end broken off of that hose that seems open?

From the look of it it looks like a vacumn system check valve maybe?
 












Thanks for the reply. One end of it comes from the firewall and I'll have to see where the other end goes. I'll post another pic.
 






Most likely it's the check valve to keep pressure to your vent selectors. Ever notice that when you accelerate the vents seem to change their pressure. That's because under acceleration there is almost no extra vacuum and they will cycle closed then open again when you let off the gas. The check valve is there to prevent the vac in the system during acceleration as sort of a vacumn buffer. That's about the only real vacumn hose that will cross the firewall. So just fix it and enjoy a much better heating and A/C system.
