What is your MPG?

I get around 11-12 MPG city (I don't go on the highways that much). I'm pretty happy with that since I have 121k on my Ex. I didn't notice any big gains when I took my roof rack crossmembers off, but that wasn't really the reason for doing it.

Hopefully when I get a KKM, it'll help

Thanks everyone for your responses! I have learned much. I'm still amazed by the variation from vehicle to vehicle, probably due more to the variation of driver's foot weight from one to the next. I must admit, around Richmond, I have to gas it hard to keep from getting run over or sitting at stop signs all day. I am still also amazed our '90 & '00 Xs fall into the category of late '60s automobile as far as fuel consumption! Is their an inherent reason for this? Keep them coming!

You all should check your O2 Snsor if your getting bad gas milage. A bad O2 sensor can signifigantly decrease your MPG

I got about 300 a tank in the summer and about 275 in the winter. This is with about 50/50 city highway driving. I guess its not too bad. BTW the K&N filter didn't make a difference. My X has 116000 miles on it.

Highway speeds are 80 mph average.

I average about 16; and that is almost all city = 275 or so a tank. But when I drive 50/50 on the highway and keep it around 70-75 mph (2600 rpm or so), I get about 340 nm a tank; and that's with 32's and 4.10's!!

Just got back from a 600 mile road trip from Montgomery,AL to Nashville,TN and back.

Our 98 EB is a 4x2 equipped as follows; 5sp Auto, 4.0 SOHC, 4.10 rearend gears, 255/70Rx16s and 47k miles.

Only mod (so far) is the Air Box Silencer has been removed.

Since owning this Explorer for 2 months now we have averaged 15-17 MPG City and 19-21 MPG Highway.

I got the 21 MPG Highway averaging around 75MPH on varied terrain (Hills and flat roads).

on average I get about 9-12 mpg, 12 is a REALLY good week, 9 is average I have a 5.0

on top of this.. I'm the slowest car on the road.. *sigh* man its depressing lol, guess I need to get a self diagnostic thingy for my sensors.. cos the dealership won't check them

97 5.0L AWD with 3.73 gears, fully loaded.

First 50K or so miles, got 14.7 - 15.3 mpg, and didn't vary with style of driving or local/distance driving. More a function of the inherent friction of the entire unit.

Over the last 30K or so miles, the mileage has slowly improved. It now routinely gets over 17mpg, and even got 18.2mpg on one long trip. Again, the drive train has loosened up, hence less friction.

This is from the mileage log I keep that goes back to new.

300 or so miles in a tank? uuh yea that is good, heh, maybe you haven't seen it but more than 1 of us is getting 9 mpg? thats like ~200 miles on a 21 gal tank.

I'm glad to see there are other 9s.. sorta.. I feel your pain lol

Fuel consumption

I zero my tripmeter with every fillup and calculate consumption by dividing distance by gallons/litres. This also helps me figure the real range. When it dropped dramatically( (down 25%) on my 92, I ( and a computer)found that the fuel pressure control valve had malfunctioned and was putting too much fuel in. It cost $200 to replace but the car ran better and I saved it in fuel within a few months. Good Luck.

what did you use to check it. Do you have a obd-1 diognostic? Or did you take it somewhere?
