Thinking about adding a 1" body lift to my ranger to make clearance on a lot of things much easier. What kind of plastic are they made of. Whats the best way to cut said material and what is the diameter of the pucks that they use on rangers/explorers?

I think they are made from ABS plastic - typically used in high impact situations.

ABS plastic can be cut with most saws - including band saws. However, keep the blade speed low as with most plastics, ABS plastic will melt and "gum" up the blade at high speeds.

Another method of making pucks is with a casting/molding process. This is how most body lift pucks are probably made - which creates a puck of the exact same dimensions every time. With this method, you can go with plastic to create the pucks, or go with metals with low-melting points such as aluminum. Of course you'd have to make the mold out of something that can resist such high temps. But aluminum is very popular in the molding process because it is compatible with all metal-casting processes.

i am sure you could buy all the pucks you need to cut down here, since most people have 4 left over from their installs.....would prob be cheeper than trying to buy new or make your own.

Good idea dman, I think I have some pucks I'm not using so I can probably throw in a few to the pile :D

didnt know there were extra when you bought body lift. That is a possibility. I was also thinking if I got the right plastic in like a 1" sheet. then just cut it with like a 3" hole saw and then just enlarge thge middle hole with a 1/2" dill bit or what ever it needs to be.

good idea, but I think it may be more hassle than its worth. You could prolly score one for 20-40 bucks. My 3" is coming out soon and ill let it go cheap, you could saw that down.

I cut some 3" pucks in half with a chopsaw.

Hey RockRanger, I recently moved and I found three body lift pucks while cleaning out the shed - anyways, they are yours if you pay for shipping (from zip code 20876)

They are all 3" - so I'm not sure but maybe you can cut slice each one into three equal length to get a total of 9 pucks ;)

just wondering why you would go through all that work for 1 inch?

Matt,

I think I may have a few lying around, they are your if I can find them, I'll look this weekend ;) Still need to send you your Reamer back anyway.

for alittle extra clearance for tirs, without having to relocate anything, no shifter extension needed, bumpers can stack in the stock location

i had a buddy make his out of metal, link to pics

I've got two 2" pucks left over from my BL. Talk to DWD if you want them. I'm sure he could set something up for you.
