Kind of an amusing thread a 5.0 explorer guy asks for mods to beat a focus, and we all give him reasons to drop a grand........

In the end though My OHV explorer can whip a ZX3 Focus. Probably can't keep up past the 1/4 but my boss got whipped on the streets.....

i thought that a exploder was quick i know mine has beat quite a few ricers along the time ive had it. now no s2000s or neon srt-4s but the civics have no chance now after saying that watch me get murdered by a ricer on the way to work!

GEARS, shift kit, camshaft and headers :)

the factory manifolds on the 5.0L ex are restrictive and those other breathing mods you listed will only get you marginal gains.

WHat kind intake manifold do you recommand? What Mustang intake would swap?
Thanks.

Sorry exhaust manifolds, not intake. The Explorer 5.0L has GT-40 intakes which flow really well. You will not need a new upper and lower intake until after you already remove the restrictive factory exhaust manifolds, airbox, and stock exhaust.

Torque Monster headers are the only header on the market that will fit your Explorer.
Ford makes a performance manifold as well, but they are still a 4 into 1 design and flow only a bit better then the factory manifolds.

You can pick up a Ford racing 1" phenolic intake spacer for your GT-40 upper intake manifold though, thats good for a few ponies for cheap.

I used the search button and found this stuff (discussed on this forum ALOT):

That was the AZ run in 2004. Sadly, I think it was an SVT, now that I know what to look for. :(

if i would have seen that i would have tied up to it and dragged it all over just for the heck of it! as theres no way i could get over it i have yet to make my skids and i know i'd break somthing.

Thanks for the info. It will come out handy.

Now that I have:

-Ford Racing Supercharger
-Gibson Cat back
-TMH's
-custom tune

I get alot of WFT looks with rice burners and others who think, it's only a SUV

but it cost me almost 4G's to get a grin on my face. (ya it was worth it)

:D

Old thread, I know... but you guys are going on about these mods to beat a Focus... there's a guy here with a ZX3 Focus.. I don't know what he has done to it. (if anything?) It 'looks' like a race oriented car.. he started staring me down at a red light one day.. so I decided.. what the hell.. and went for it on green. (Keep in mind my mods, intake, catback, tune, shift kit..) and the bad, when it comes to racing anyways... 31's with 3.73 gears... I beat him no problem at all.. and quite frankly.. I was surprised... the weight difference had me thinking I didn't have much a chance.. but I won anyways.
