what muffler to go with

There are lots of threads on the topic including an all inclusive 5.0/V8 exhaust thread. You'll get your answers as well as a pile of sound clips there. You have WAY more choices with a 5.0 than any V6 because a V8 always sounds better than a V6 with or without aftermarket exhaust.

resonator style mufflers (ie flowmasters, dynomax, etc) have one type of sound (hard to describe)

absorption style mufflers (ie cherry bombs, magnaflow) have another.

i recommend listening to some sound clips on youtube see which you prefer.

as for the pitch of the sound, bigger pipe = lower pitch, with a typical pipe being 2.25"
