If I'm not misstaken, all of the explorers came from the factory with either 235/75/15s or (correct me if I'm wrong)225/75/15s. I have never heard of an explorer with 14s.

235/75-15 is one of the stock sizes...No explorers ever came with 14" wheels.

Does it tell you on the door jam label?

thanks for the replies

Tire size on Alloys

Hello, I am currently running Alloy wheels with P235-75R/15 on my 99 XLT and am wondering if I can run P225-70R/15s. Will the fit on the rims okay? Will the speedometer be true? I have checked some of the sites and one of them showed the OEM was P225-70R/15, but it didn't mention if there is a difference between steel rims to alloy or if that would be any different.

Trying to save a few bucks and there is a price difference in the 2 sizes.

Thanks!

They will probably fit the rims. I looked up one tire model, and they show the 235/75-15 has a 28.7" overall diameter compared to a 27.3" diameter for the 225/70-15, which are narrower and have a lower aspect ratio. It might affect your speedo if it was calibrated with the larger diameter tire, but that's only a 5% difference.
