Dreamr said he put in hole plugs that he got from Home Depot (IIRC). I went to Home Depot, asked this same question...and the guy had no idea what I was talking about. I ended up getting some plugs, like what he has through my dad. He talked to the guy at his work who pulls dents on the cars, and he said that he had some plugs that should fit perfectly. He gave use 32(?) for free and that was the exact amount I needed IIRC. What color is your truck, below that molding? Is it black down by the rockers or what? You could always Herc the rockers...even if you do plug the holes.
Can you post a picture or two of it with the flares? I ask because I have 99 parts for my 93, and I haven't decided if I would rather have those more rounded type. The parts wouldn't be a perfect match at the running boards, that's another subject. Regards,
My X is white, and the flares and such are gold. I plan omn hercing the rocker area, probably after i have the holes welded or something. Or maybe i'll just try and find some plugs and herc over those.
here is a pic of a 96 with the same trim, jsut a different color:
Thanks for the pic, I have at least two like it on my route. Would you sell the six flare pieces? I have 99 pieces that I can use, but I think I'd rather have that older style. I haven't seen a year change, or model difference, but I think around 1999 the flares changed to a different lip shape. Regards,
Yea i would be willing to sell them. Not sure what they go for though, so let me know what you think is fair. I have the right side off already, and a few pieces got lsightly damaged (plastic started tearing from the clips) but they will bolt back on no problem. Now that i know what i am doing the left side shoudl come off with no damage.
Yes, two screwdrivers with without sharp edges, do the trick. Brian(Trckmagik) sent me a message saying that he got his from Ped5stang for $115 shipped to him. I am not sure how much that shipping actually was for them. What do you think of $100 plus shipping?
I will look harder at an Explorer like your's tomorrow, and my 99 pieces. Regards,
okay, back to the topic at hand.
There are several possibilities as to what to do with the holes, depending on the desired results.
You can get some " christmas trees " push in clips. See if your local paint and body shop supply house has Au-Ve-Co fastiners. You can get a whole box of them. Paint to match.
OR
for a nice clean look, you weld the holes shut and fill them with body filler.
This method would be both difficult and real involved but will yield the best results.
yea i think i'll have them welded, or (jbwelded ) and then maybe use body filler. The rockers and fenders will be herculined, a lot like Dougs. So body filler is going to be avoided as much as possible.
