driving lights i believe are under 55 watts..
and usually are stock on a vehicle...

offroad lights are the 8 zillion candle watts.
usually on the roll bar or brush guard ..

looking for some also but not sure where to put them since I have no brush guard?
not sure how they would look on top of the bumper..

I was thinking of just mounting 2 on top of bumper and then buying a roof mount light bar and puting like 4 on top

If you look at I am Todd's truck, he has some on the front bumper. I am about to buy a set of Hella 500s for pretty cheap and I'm mounting them there for now(until I get tube bumpers). Plus they are sort of skinny, so it will fit well there too. :) O, and since they are below the headlights, you can use them on the street too.

Getting a deal on them through a friend who works at Pep Boys.

You can probly fabricate (if your good with a welder) your own little mount and put them up top.... or I'm sure you can buy little mounts for them, dont think you have to go as big as a brush guard if you dont want to

had light bars on old trucks and do they not attach by the rain gutter things that are not on explorers.

My old ranger "light bar" (kenco) is sitting in the back room of my house. It attached to the rain gutters which my explorer does not have.

Too bad I don;t have a friend at pep boys. LOL
