what weight oil?

I am doing a oil change soon and want to go full synthetic, i was wondering what weight i should run. Vehicle is 98 ex sport with the ohv 4.0.

also, i think i am going to go with kendall gt-1 and a motorcraft filter, what are your opinions?

temps where i live get down to single digits in winter, and tripple digits in the summer.

A 0W-30 or 5W-30 would probably work best in your situation. The 5W-30 will of course be the easiest to find.

My Explorer has been filled with assorted conventional and synthetic blend 5W-30s over the past 13 years and 156,000 miles and seems fine with it. It was in PA for 12 years, so it saw both very low temps and moderately high temps for all of its life.

Currently I am using Kendall synthetic blend.

Keep an eye out for leaks and watch the oil level after switching over to synthetic in a high mileage truck. Synthetic might dissolve deposits/gunk left by conventional oil. You may have some external leaks, and you may lose some oil past the valve guide seals. Just keep an eye out. I switched my Ranger over to synthetic at 75,000 miles and the only change I noticed was slight oil consumption, I assume from the valve guide seals. It did not have any external leaks at all and the consumption was very minor.

gonna try to find someone that carrys kendall today, i think i will also pick up some full snyth gear lube

well no one in tulsa carries kendall gt-1 full synth.



so.......i bought royal purple, gonna change it tomorrow.
