Just want to find out who has the best prices and what type I should get for a tranny cooler for my 95 explorer 4.0 I use it for occasional towing for my 3500lb boat and offroading.

I would give Summit Racing a try. They have many different brands and sizes. I would cal thier tech info line at 330-630-0240. They are great. I have orderd stuff for my Mountaineer from them and a few years back when I had a 75' NOVA. They have good prices and fast shipping which is free. They also do second day air for $9.95 for anything up to 20lbs which is a steal bcause 1lb is right arund $8.00.

my local pep boys had a hayden one that iput in... it was a relatively bolt on affair minus a couple brackets that i made and a hole or 2 that idrilled... it is at least 1.5 larger than the stock tranny cooler and is rated for a class c motorhome towing a clas c car behind it....

Tranny cooler

So do you folks recommend replacing the stock tranny cooler with an aftermarket or just adding it to the existing setup??

Get a "long" style cooler

I would get the Long style plate type cooler- much better than the tube and fin type.
Heres a B&M with fittings at summit;

This is the same style as stock just a bit larger.

Earls has a bunch of great coolers, but they are high dollar- but worth it.

For wheeling, towing I would get the largest. Around town normal stuff the larger factory cooler seems to work ok.

If you have a stock cooler I would replace it with a larger aftermarket. The stock early models came with two sizes of aux coolers, the larger is OK for most uses, its around 6.5 inches tall and 10 wideX 3/4", the B&M above is about the same area, but is twice as thick, 1-1/2".

Have Fun

Hey by the way did anyone see the interesting coolers made by moroso in jeg's?? I wonder if it really works good it's really thin looks like a frame mount and it's a filter at the same time, how about that?

if you have the room ADD a new cooler in with the existing stocker. tranny cooler is one area were you cant get too much, so have 2 if you got the room. thats what i did. got the biggest one i could find (locally) and tied it in-line with my stocker. your tranny will thank you for it...

I've decided now instead of getting a gauge pod with a temp gauge I'm just going to invest the money towards a trans cooler with an electric fan and thermostat that way I don't have to worry about so much where I mount it. I also wanted to actually tie strap it to the radiator behind the grille.
