Whats the point of AutoZone?

O Reilly rules the roost

O Reilly always have what I need and they are ALWAYS cheaper than Autozone. I only go to Autozone for free diagnostics. When I know what I need I go to O Reilly :p

I have AutoZone, NAPA, Carquest, Advanced Auto Parts, and Checker all within five miles.

I only goto AutoZone to attempt to use up a store merchandise card I got from returning a loan-a-tool torque wrench to late. Salespeople seem to know stuff, but I never buy anything exotic. When my merchandise card is used up, I'll pry do most of my shopping at NAPA.

I like going to NAPA. Like a small town Mom and Pop parts store. Helpful. Salespeople know stuff. Prices are higher, but I think the quality is better on most items.

I have only been to Carquest a few times. Had the lowest price on the hood struts.

Advanced Auto Parts seems to have subpar salespeople. I hardly shop there at all.

Checker salespeople seem to know stuff. I hardly go there since they usually have two people in the whole store, at the back parts counter. Cashier? HELLO?

Respect

Let's be respectful and remember that some people work there Hint Hint. No, I do not work in one of our stores anymore. I do apologize to anyone who has had a negitive experience an any of our stores. I have had negative and positive experiences in both our stores and our competetions stores yet you don't hear me blasting them or calling them morons.

As for the Clay Bar, Yes we do usually stock the clay bar kits in our stores. What it is what it is used for I have no idea because I have never used it. I haven't done a whole lot of body work.

I need to know one thing because I seemed to have destroyed something and don't know what it is called. There is a fiberglass fender under the grill that runs across the whole front end. (It also holds the headlights in place which is why I need it) What is that fender called? It is not the grill. It is not the radiator mount. Or maybe the fiberglass piece is considered part of that mount but I don't think so.

i dont depend on parts stores' people for information. i may use their computers for part numbers, but thats the extent of info i get from them. i use this site or my haynes manual for most of my info and go to where parts are cheapest(usually autozone).

I pretty much use NAPA for everything. Why? Because they have everything. And the quality is definitely there.

Cost more? That's a perspective thing. What few parts have ever gone bad have also had a labor claim paid on them. In the last couple years that's been a clutch set, harmonic balancer and V6 Probe alternator. I easily remeber all 3 out of the hundreds of repairs I've done.

napaonline.com is the web site. Easiest shopping you'll ever do.

I always go to Oreillys since it came into town. Funny thing is they know what they are talking about, and they have items in stock, or if not they will have it from the warehouse next bis day

But they dont carry that, nor do the intend to because its just not something that sells. Although he gave me a location of a specialty show where he bought his. But he said it would cost more there *sigh*

I take it people in the Dallas area do not have a use for these. Im still trying to find a place to order it from. Also a swirl remover for white paint. All i can find localy is dark paint... if that makes a difference?

Anyone got a site that would have both these and is cheap? I was hoping to go local to save on 10 buck shipping on 7 bucks of products ;)

O'Reilly's carries it. I worked there for a year before I graduated from KU and we had them. Meguiar's brand, they came with a bottle of Quick Detailing spray to use in conjunction with the bar. Stick with O'Reilly's; most of them will take care of you well.

And if O'Reilly doesn't have the lowest price, just have them call the competitor and they'll price match for you at O'Reilly's.

Problem with Carquest and NAPA is that they're not open nights/weekends. Those stores are more worried about their commercial accounts so they don't stay open late. Then you have AutoZone, who's almost completely selling to the DIY'er. Advance and O'Reilly are somewhere in the middle, which seems best to me.

Here, I know that AutoZone closes at later hours, but I am unsure on the others. The NAPA here is open Saturday and Sunday, although I do not know the hours. I have not been to Carquest for quite a while, so the hours are unknown.

The point

The point is lifetime warranty on parts.

Also every $20 you spend X5 you get a $20 gift card. I have one and I am planning on spending about $700 soon in parts and crap over there. So I'll go in and get $20 at a time or as close to that as I can get. Then keep raking my $20 gift certificates.

That's a $140 in gift certificates if I play my purchases right I can save $140.

Went to Autozone and Checker trying to find copper banjo bolt washers. They no longer sell them. They are now only sold if you buy their calipers :thumbdwn: :fire:

Went to NAPA which is WAY farther from my house, they pulled out a box of assorted sealing washers and voila... I was good to go.

i love it when i go into these places and the counter people argue with you, for example i needed a gasket for my Grand Prix's heater pipe coming out of the water pump housing and the guy just stood there arguing with me about how there is no gasket their and it is an o-ring, i'm sorry but he's not the one at my garage pulling the engine apart, he even refused to look in the computer becasue he wasn't going to waste his time he knew he was right and i was wrong

Almost every parts store does lifetime warranties on parts.

From My experince Auto Zone is good for basic stuff from fog lights to Air Filters to Batteries. But as Rick Said when you need more complicated stuff they dont have it or wont sell it to you.

Yea, i use them for simple parts. Beyond that i order offline, or go to Napa. I had a guy at autozone argue with me and tell me that i had a monoleaf rear end. After taking him outside to look under my truck he STILL claimed that I had a monoleaf rear end.....at that point i lost all repsect for the knowledge of the AutoZone staff.

I once had to argue with somebody there about a price match on an $8 rubber brake pedal cover that R & S Strauss was selling for $5. They said that they couldn't match it unless I had a receipt from that store to prove that they actually sell the same thing for $5. They wouldn't call that store either. I did get a receipt, and they still argued with me, but did match the price. I went back into that store a week later, and the guy asked me if I had my original receipt on me with both prices. He said that he needed it to show his boss. I told him that I didn't have it, but he said that I always carry receipts with me. I took out my wallet, and showed him that I didn't have it. He said that maybe I might have it in my other pocket! I then showed him that I only had keys, and a couple of other things in that pocket. He said that I should go home, and look for it. I went home, and never went back to that store. They also wanted to charge me $80 for a $35 flywheel, and $10 for a $4 rear transmission housing seal.

You all need to report these people to the general managers not the managers at the store, because often they are the problem. I report any freak that gives me problems over there expressly when they answer and can't speak english only spanish. I call INS and tell them illegals are working at said shop.

Whats the point of AutoZone?

It's a place to work for those who couldn't cut it turning fries at McDonalds.

haha, dude thats harsh. Autozone does have its ups and downs, like everything else. But i do find myself leaving there empty handed sometimes.

The point of AutoZone is to slowly kill everybody. Crappy rebuilt parts using crappy rebuilt components made in China!!! Just like all fast food joints fast "auto" parts stores (except Pep Boys (maybe) are there just to sell oil and filters and give usually substandard auto guys jobs. Otherwise, I say, sitck to NAPA. Sometimes it can be a little more expensive, and if they don't have it...It is probably a dealer only product.
