That's "HomeLink". I have it in my '99 Eddie Bauer and I like it. You can program the three buttons to "learn" other remotes. I open my garage door with the middle dark button. The other two buttons aren't programmed. It also has a "Voice Memo" feature. Hit the record button and you can record your thoughts. I've never used that feature except by accident. :D

very interesting.

do you know if i can have it in my 96 xlt?

is better to talk to somebody else instead of myself :D

thanks a lot for the info

I've seen HomeLink visors on eBay before. Presumably you'd just need to wire it up to a power source and you'd be in business. It looks like a regular visor except for the unit. I've never paid attention to how it's wired so can't help you there off hand.

Whattya know? There is one on eBay right now. Low opening bid too. I've seen brand new units with Buy it Now prices that were pretty high. I considered trying one of these on my old Sport and the cost didn't really justify it at the time. I never did look into how they wire up back then either.

EDIT: It was this seller.

I've been looking for a light gray one of those. Seems to be few and far between.

I drove about 100 miles to the dealership which had my x before I bought it.

When I arrived, the salesman I'd called ahead and talked to had recorded a message on the voice recorder.

When I drove it home, I promptly deleted the message, and replaced it with "It's mine b!tch!s!" in my most excited voice, since I was pretty stoked to own it.

The message is still there. ;)

I remember when I was considering it, this one eBay seller had tons of them in both colours. Brand new to boot. I forget the name of the seller, but they always had lots of Ford OEM stuff. I scored my OEM rear spoiler from them.

Its not that important anyways. Probably won't work with the genie intelicode system anyways.

Nope - they also work with intellicode and roving frequency openers.

HomeLink has lots of good info on compatability.

I simply attached my security system remote to the visor. It opens/closes the garage, activates/deactivates the security system and turns on/off lights.

Works well for me.

I want one myself, but I only want the transmitter, not the whole visor. I want to do it backwards and have the homelink unit on the top of the visor so it's out of sight. Always makes me nervous having a garage door opener in plain sight when it's left in the driveway.

i didn`t know that this homelink was so powerfull.

can somebody tell me how you can programme it to open a garage?

They have programming instructions on their site. My '99 didn't come with a manual so I had to use the site to figure it out and it wasnt' too difficult at all.

I used "Homelink" as a search term on eBay last night and there seems to be a lot of applications in other vehicles. You might be able to find something else and rig it up to work for you.

The buttons aren't as visible as I thought they'd be. I also have a "visor organizer" up there and it blocks out the buttons a bit as well.
