What size backspacing should i use to fit 15x8 wheels on my stock 97 Explorer 2-Dr XL ?

I should have asked this before but what size tires are you getting? If you're not going very big at all, you could get away with 4" but if you're getting something that is 10" wide or more, then the 3.75" will work good for you.

Also what are you doing with the truck, lifting, lowering, leaving it stock height?
 






I'm going with 31x10.5-15 Interco SSR Series of Super Swamper Radial/TSL since i have used them on past vehicles an are very happy with the on/off-road performance an for now i'm keeping her stock height since i don't do as much off-roading as most on this site do, but i do plan to put some performance in her think a Flowmaster Force II Cat-Back Exhaust System & K&N Fuel Injection Performance Air Intake Kit to get her breathing better.
