My back left wheel on my 96 XLT seems to be scraping on something every rotation. It is only audible at slow but yuo can hear it speed up as the wheels spin fast so i know it isn't a shock. Could be mud in my wheel but i dunno, anybody out there know what the problem could be? thanks

It could be anything from a rock (or mud) caught between the rotor and the backing plate to a draging e-brake. Withought removing the wheel and looking for the sorce of the noise it will be impossible to guess what is causing it.

alright, i guess ill clean it out tomorrow. Thanks!

I had this problem and it eventually developed into a real loud squeal whenever I'd start from a stop. It was a dragging e brake, had to have the brake rebuilt.

If it is indeed a draggin e-brake how will i know once i get off the wheel, and how can i fix it? Thanks

Do you suggest i do the job myself?

Search for emergency brake and you should find info.... there was a thread very recently regarding it, with little diagrams.

I noticed that the scraping sound goes away when i apply my brake making me beleive that it isn't my e-brake but my rear disc brake scraping. How can this problem be fixed?

Caliper slide pins may need to be regreased.

left wheel scrapping

i have the same problem, adjusted the e-brake out so it does not rub, new rotors, installed rebuilt caliper, i'm on third set of pads, greased all areas, and still have the scrapping at just one area of the rotor. gets worse when it heats up. factory defect?, mine was assembled in tenn. still trying to figure out the problem, any other suggestions?

Ya, mine is a 96 also, could be a factory defect for that year. I think i may take mine to the dealership so they can tell me whats wrong then i'l fix it up. I'll tell you how it goes, thanks for all of the help.

I had this problem too..although I had a different problem. My brake pads had worn down too far and there was a small metal clip that is made to make that noise on the rotor when the pads get low enough. No biggie...only rear pads, rotors and a new emergency brake setup...just $700 Hopefully if it is the pads all you need is the pads themselves.

If i take my pad off, will i be able to see the clip? How much do the pads alone cost? Thanks
