I was wondering how Ford establishes the date from which their base 3 years/36,000 thousand mile warranty begins? Is it from the date the vehicle was manufactured (which I can determine quite easily I believe from all the manufacturers stickers on the vehicle) or is it from when it is first purchased?? (which in my case would be nearly impossible to determine...bought it as a fleet vehicle purchased form Canada)

Any help on this would be great.

I am 97% sure it is the date of first purchace.
Call your local dealer and give them the vin code and they will tell you the expireation date

the one new vehicle I had bought was years ago it was a 1995 Mustang gt and it went by the date the car was manufactured.. at least that was in florida back in 95..

the dealerships look for the manufacture date stamp on the vehicle to determine the warranty start date.. unless your state has made an exception ...

Warrenty begins on sales date mileage too, at least in Virginia for the originial owner.

I've always been told the time portion of the warranty (36 mo) starts on the "in service date" - the date when you purchase the vehicle. This is assuming the vehicle has never been titled before. The mileage is what it is - if you buy new and the vehicle has 200 miles on it, the warranty is still 36,000 miles - not 36,200 miles.

Warranty starts when a title is issued for that car, Doesn't matter who the title belongs to(bank, dealer, person ect) Demo cars are not titled so thats why you can buy a new car with 1K miles & have a full warranty.

if you give me the vin i can run it and find out, it goes by the date of in-service like these guys said, luckily i have a tool availble that i can find that out

The warranty goes into effect the date that the vehicle goes into service. A car can sit on the lot for 2 years before it is sold, and the warranty will start on that date.

Vehicle warranty start date and mileage is based on the dealer reporting the vehicle as " In Service" - they can be titled or not (dealer reported demo units can be sold & titled as new upto 6000miles for financing purposes - but warranty start date/mileage is when the dealer reported the vehicle as going into demo service). Some fudging can be done at the dealer level as far as the mileage goes (ie: actual delivery mileage 22miles, we put down 36281, its not uncommon for me to pad a customers lease a few hundred miles to help out on the back end - but it has to be within reason).

EDIT: Finally found it in my "Policy and Procedures Guide",
"The maximum pre-service mileage of any new passenger vehicle is 1000 miles"
