When the ford oem battery dies!!!!

sorry I couldn't resist. LOL

According to a rep from Interstate, the average life expectancy of a 12volt battery is 3 years. This doesen't mean that all batteries will only last 3yrs. it just means that very few last longer. If you consider that the battery in your X is 5 years old, it has lasted almost twice as long as expected. I would consider replacing it soon, or risk it and see just how long the stocker will last.

I have a ? about batteries that I'll ask in this thread...

Heat is a big enemy of a battery. If I put heat-reflective tape on the outside of the battery, would it improve it's life? Or would this be ridiculous to do, and ineffectual?

We still have the original Motorcraft battery in our 95 Probe. It is six years old and still going. It has the eye in it like the delco batteries and it is still green. When it doesn't show green anymore you are supposed to replace it.

3 years is the life expectancy?! of what a 12 volt lantern bettery?! LOL Anyway in our old 88 ford E150 we never replaced the battery. we kept it till 94, when we got another E150 and it still has the origional in it now. plus my 95 Explorer has the origional. These batteries still run strong and the little "eye" is still green. I'm going to continue to run my battery in my 95 until it won't go anymore. I'll bet I still get several years use.

whats the oem again

There is no absolutely reason to replace it if it is still good. I have never replaced a battery unless it needs it. And, in our cold winters, our batteries get one hell of a workout, but they will be good for a long time unless you kill it a few times by leaving the lights on or something.

So, if it is starting to crank a little slow, replace the battery, otherwise leave it in. No point in needlessly disposing of batteries in working order...after all, aren't all of us SUV drivers environmentally friendly? ;-)

My OEM just died, and i got an Optma Yellow Top which is very nasty, the lights don't even flinch when the bass hits hard.

I think three years is a bis short. I have had a Sears DieHard batt in mine since I bought it 3.5 years ago. It is still going strong and has given no problems. I will replace it when it dies

Knock on Wood.

GO LAKERS!!!

I live in SoCal.

With the Explorer when it hit 3 years it was cranking a little slow, and was a little quick to decharge. This is usually the case with most batteries in my experience at least.
