Where are all the FAST Naturally Aspirated 5.0's ??

I didnt mean to get the LS1 motor, I meant to get a car more suitable for dragging. Even if money was no option and you dumped every mod in the world into an X, there would still be some little sardine can that could wax that azz.

OK,OK, I don't want to offend anyone out there, (I own two Ex's) as I'm sure there are alot of relativly fast Explorers out there, but.... Racing Explorers is alot like racing Harleys or sailboats...even if you got a fast one, it still isn't fast.

Troll's fast, unless 10 seconds is slow.

I stand corrected, is someone running 10s in an Ex??? ( now this is not over a cliff, right?)

OUCH!Is this thing out on the streets?

Yeah JPC you didnt know that??? Troll is currently probably the fastest 2nd gen explorer. Heck your inFlorida, go to Miami and see for yourself. If ya pay for the gas and any possible tickets he may get I am sure Bill would be pretty willing to take you for a ride in it. While I dont think I will be pushing my truck to the 9 second barrier I will be going for mid 11's possible 10's if things really go right in the 1/4 once I am able to start my project again. It is very very expensive to get these truck that fast though. I will be spending close to $20,000 (modular engine, new gen explorer)just under the hood for my truck alone. And Troll has already spent upwards of $35,000(302 based 347 2nd gen explorer) in total for parts and breakage of things and whatnot.

Hey Dman I misunderstood your post at first and pretty much corrected it on the spot after I noticed what ya meant. lol. But I guess you had already seen it and were responding back by then.

Thats cool. I wasnt trying to offend anyone. I remember a post a while back where one of the "young kids" on the board wanted to know how to "rice out" his explorer, and responded with the long explanation of how he should get an econo box and save for retirement and what not. Which was all pretty funny. But like he also said, most of the X's on this board that are built up costs their owners a lot more than money over the years AND a lot of money. For those who have achieved it, I honor you, but for those wanting to get their with a few hundred dollars of bolt ons, its not gonna happen.

Never meant to imply that it cant be done, but if your like 16 and want to be able to kill everyone on the street, your stock explorer is not going to do it....lol. With mine being a stocker, I can easily see how it took previously mentioned 20K to 35K to get it in the 10 sec range.

Thanks for the info Rocket, I just might get over there to see this.
BTW, from what I can see in your avatar, nice looking Ex.
AHAA, found your homepage, VERY nice!!

Yeah some kids are just really proud of their vehicle whether it is a Hando civic or a ford explorer, and being it would most likely be their first car they think that their car and themselves are invincible and better than others. lol. It is ok, I used to be that way when I was younger too and had my first ride. Some people do not realize how much money it takes to go truly fast in these trucks. They think that ya just throw a shot of nitrous on these trucks and you are a dragster. But it does not work that way. Heck a shot of nitrous might not get most people into the low 15's in the 1/4 which just sux. I spend over $6,000 on my old project truck before I wrecked it and I was only going for low 13's and possible high 12's if I threw a small shot of nitro on there and had a good launch. Very expensive but very fun too. Best sleeper is one where you can haul all your gear, look good doing it, seat 6 passengers, tow a boat, be comfortable while driving and still smoke any stock cobra(including 03's) LS1, or WS6, out there. Costly but worth it in my eyes. But then again I will have other project CARS on top of this so this is not the only one I will have to race. The other is going to be a 94-94 mustang GT w/ 5.0 HO in it.

explorers are not really that bad to make go fast. the biggest problem is getting the right parts for the job and the right tunning.there are a lot of fast ones in florida.

You got your brother. Dominic with X-box. And that fella that goes by 1fastmountaineer too from what I have heard of. And there are probably more too. It is just the bad rap that these trucks got when the whole firestone thing happened. From there on out people have a hard time but to doubt these trucks. Even though the new gen explorers are worlds apart from the older gens, people still see the explorer name and think exploder. I guess it is cool though cause it makes for a better sleeper. Build a fast truck and win a little money because people doubt it soo much. Let alone just have fun seeing the other guys jaw drop when you pull them like they were hitting their E-brake. hehehe.
