my X is used as a delivery truck. i need all the useable space i can get. i cannot mount it on/underneath the rear seat or on the sub box. anyone have room under the driver or passenger seat? has anyone mounted their amp on the ceiling? any thoughts on that? pictures would be great if anyone has any.

bungee cord is for when I shove things in there that are are prone to fall out :D I had some misc light weight metal plates for a project i was working on so I had them stuck in there and the cord was keeping them from falling out... plus its a good spot for it so i can find it when I need it :) I usualy work out of my truck so my cargo area usualy has my big craftsman tool box in it + my sub box and other tools, right now everything is pulled apart due to my motor swap/tcase swap/body lift/stuck body mount/ect.... I might bother to do a nicer custom install rack/board thing for my amp finally but I sort of like the extra storage space... though the stuff might get moved over to the opening made when I take out the t-case shift computer

My amp is in the same exact place that wolf's is. Just sideways though... I dont know if you wanna try the ceiling.. I am just guessing there wouldnt be enough room to put the sixe of screw needed to hold it up.... I would also think messing with the colth isnt a good idea... I have been in old caddys where all of the colth is hanging down or it has air bubbles in it. just my inexperienced 2 cents

On my '97 Sport there is plenty of room behind each rear speaker. If you position your amp properly, you will be able to make fine adjustments after everything is put back together by going through the speaker hole. One side of my amp is bolted directly to the support. The other side I mounted to the supports via metal straps. It is solid and has more than enough air-flow through there.

Lets talk more about the ceiling idea...I have thoguth about mounting my amp there a lot. I think it would be sweet mounted above the passenger seating area. I think if you pulled down the headliner, and liquid nailed or bolted or something a piece of MDF to the ceiling, then screwed the amp to the MDF. Am I nuts or would that look sweet if done right? Anybody willing to try it?

Keep in mind that Baehan's truck is probably a 4door, which means his rear speakers are in the doors... and on a side note, the 91-94 sports rear speaker mount is part of the body if I remember right....

I really dont know about the ceiling idea, the headliners in the Ex are made of a fiberglass/foam mix, so mounting a amp to it might not be a good idea, esp when the amp goes up and you cant find another the same size... means holes you cant fix or hide, plus you would need to run all the wiring for the amp over the headliner... the wiring is enough of a PITA from front to back, I dont even want to think about going to the roof for it, the rear quarter is your best bet IMO, mine has been mounted there for around 3 years now, and I use the hell out of my truck to haul all sorts of stupid stuff, I just unplug my sub-box toss it out of the truck and start tossing stuff in :) never gets hit or messed up that way, and if you have to move something thats really big it might get in the way mounted on the ceiling (I have banged my dome lights before) also another thought to the bad idea of putting it over the seats on the ceiling, amps to get hot, some get really hot, not something you want in reach while you are sitting in the seat...

Mine isnt a sport but I bolted it to the back of the smaller split seat. The little flap that covers the gap between the folded seat and the back compartment has a metal backing that is good for bolting too. Therefore behind it, was also a god place to stash wires and whatnot. It is also low enought for me to pull the cover over it so you cannot see anything by looking in the windows. I am not sure how much the sports differ tho.

When I was thinking of where to put my amp I thought of mounting it behing the armrest of the Xplorer, that flat surface....but my closest ground with out putting a hole in the carpet was under my seat. I later mounted my amp on my box. Check out my install at cardomain (address below)
