If you want better gas mileage, you will have to make changes. But the sticker mpg does not take into account exactly how you will use your vehicle and/or under what conditions.

If you make mods to your vehicle as mentioned above, make sure you follow it correctly.

Man I'm not sure if there is some sort of comprehension problem here or what. C/D as well as ford tested the 4.6L v8 explorer and came back with "average" MPG... The truck for the most part is suppose to average 14-15mpg city, and more on the highway. That is AVERAGE driving as well, stop and go, etc...under normal loaded conditions. This is an SUV, that means passengers and cargo for the most part. Most members here if you run a search are getting that, or more with mods and conservative driving.

As I mentioned above, I drive ALONE to and from work and even with a trip on turnpike, I'm only averaging 11.6mpg. Something is wrong, plain and simple. I haven't hooked up my boat, I'm driving with a light foot, and I am "trying" to conserve gas by all means necessary. Truck is still overly thirsty. Ford and other independent testing facilities are not wrong about the gas consumption of the 4.6L as other members have observed those "averages" and better. Not sure what point you are trying to get across. 11.6MPG is not the norm and not what this truck should be getting. Mechanically speaking, something is aiding to it's thirst for gas.

Comprehension...

That's where your gas is going to... I have larger rims and tires, and fill up more often. That doesn't mean you don't have a mechanical issue, but likely it's all the cargo.

This is what you asked about... what is causing poor mpg. I only suggested you look at how you use your vehicle - in addition to possible mechanical issues.

Hey thanks for that link JP......seems like an easy quick mod.
