Reclaimed motor oil
This is nothing but nostalga. Back in the early 70's I bought an old boat and the engine took 10 quarts of oil to fill the pan. I was low on cash. A local department store called Two Guys had on the shelf remanufactured motor oil in gallon cans. At this time the other cans of brand name motor oil all had the words "virgin" printed on them. Talked with someone once and he said he used to go down to a junkyard around LA and get reclaimed motor oil for 15 cents a quart. He thought it was drained out of cars and just filtered. Said it looked just like new oil and no weight was specified. I have worked with diatomatious earth filters for EDM machine oil and it will be just black by the end of the day. Let the filter run overnight and it will be crystal clear in the morning. Those were the days when oil was simple. Filter out the dirt and the oil was just about as good as new.
