I know my local PepBoys sells undercoating in cans. I would assume most of the other places also carry it.

I would go to your local body shop supply store. I think there stuff is a little better then what you get from a autoparts store.. Just my opinion.

I ordered some rust fighter spray off the 3M companys website

3M I believe the part number is 8081 is a nice black undercoating. Some cheaper undercoating comes out reddish-brown. Wear a long sleeve shirt and a pair of gloves when you spray this stuff or you'll have black freckels for a week or two

Make that 3M 08881
That is the stuff.
I checked today

HOLD IT!!!!

The black product is an "undercoating", not a rust preventative or inhibitor or proofing!

Actually the term "rust proofing" is in correct, but that is another issue.

Rust Preventatives or Inhibitors are a "tan" color and not a heavy spray.

You can get the same product, (which vehicle manufacturers refer to as "cavitity wax" at www.autoint.com look under the Body Shop Products section.

The product for the consumer is packed in an aerosol, but under the "warranty products" section it shows the "professional installation", which really gets the product up in the cavitities of a vehicle.

This is the same product provided to the vehicle manufacuters, by the way, although they rely more on ecoat today for most parts, which is why the vehicle rusts as soon as the factory warranty runs out.

check out por15 paint. the stuff is expensive but it converts rust and stands up like you wouldnt believe.

Thanks for bringing that up Ketch

Good point.

Or another Herculiner accident with a small twist. Haha...:D

I'm not sure exactly what your x protection needs are, but up here in the Great White North we are always fighting road salt corrosion. In my experience, Krown Rust protection is the very best, its also a helluva penetrating oil. Have it applied professionally and if you have rust it i'll eat it and will protect any other metal that is rust free. It also protects electrical wires and creeps under any rubber or plastic mouldings to protect metal that is hidden. Its NOT an undercoating, but a rust inhibiter.:D It keeps me smil'in
