Repost, possibly in a better section:
Hi, I am planning on finding a 4r70w out of a junk yard and then rebuilding it so that there are no reliability issues. I remember reading that some newer years, all I would have to repin a couple of pins. For the life of me, I can't find that thread.
I have a 3-4 shudder and when I pulled the pan a few months ago it was nasty. There was a lot of clutch material. I figure its only a matter of time before it does.
It will be going into a 1996 Explorer (built 10/95) 2wd 5.0, with unknown mileage as the odometer stopped at about 154k, that doesn't get a whole lot of down time. This will be my second transmission rebuild, the first being a GM 4l60E. I have read the diary in it's entirety as well as watched a few videos and read other articles.
I know that the later years were better built, which one, without going nuts, will be my best option?
