Sorry to be the bearer of bad news:

Sounds like you lost Overdrive. With 4.10's and OD off, my 00 with the 5 speed auto is right around that level....

From my understanding OD is working. B/c when I am at 60 and kick OFF OD it revs higher,, then when I kick it back on (OD) the RPMs lowers,, but not much maybe 500-800rpms,,,, close to 1000rpms,, but not there.

Sp does that mean OD is still not working??

If so,,, how do I get OD back then>?

If you can get the axle code off the info sticker on the driver's door, there's a thread in the "Useful Threads" forum under VIN info that can tell you what you got.

Not sure aout it, but I think it should be jumping more than 500-1k RPM's in and out of OD. Those RPM's sound very high for only 60 MPH. Witht he 5 speed auto and 4.10's, I pull ~ 3000 RPMS @ 80 MPH. Since those are the highest gears you can get, all the rest would have lower RPM's at speed.

As far as getting OD back - you could try a code scan of the transmission/computer or it may be time for a rebuild. :(

I think your OD is OK, and as said earlier look at the sticker on the drivers door.

What size tires are you running?

No aftermarket tires on it. Its all OEM equiment.

I will look again on the side of the driver door sticker... but I think it does not tell me the RPM's :(

I'll let'cha know.

Thanks!

It won't tell you the rpms, it will have a code under "axle" on the sticker. That is the one you need to translate the ratio.

The difference in RPM with your OD on and off will be 25%. With OD off, your transmission is in 3rd gear. 3rd gear has a gear ratio of 1:1. With OD on, your transmission is in 4th gear which has a gear ratio of .75:1. In other words if you are at 3000 RPM with OD on, when you turn OD off, your RPMs should go up to 3750 RPM. As mentioned earlier, 3000 RPM at 60 MPH is where you should be running with OD off, not on. With OD on at 60 MPH you should be approximately 2200-2400 RPM if everything is OEM.

Does anyone here know the link to see the AXEL Codes??
I think it said like 3H or something like that,, but once I read the link for the Codes,,, AI think I will know... but since the SUV is not with me here at work I cannot get the code again today. But if anyone can share the link for the axel code,, that would be great

Thanks

Guys,

I found the Axel Code is "42" which I saw that , that code is 4.10's ... but here is the catch.. ))))))))))))

I find out that some of you guys are running 70mph less then 3000 Rpms. If so are you all on stock size tires?

I wonder if there is an problem with my tranny if I revvingover 3K at 60mph w/ Overdrive on.

Robert,

Read up the above post from this one. I found out I have 4.10's.

When I am running 60 mph I am at about 3K rpms with OD on.
Yep the X is all OEM :(.

Can there be a problem with something like an Tranny sensor or something out like that???

Thanks
:(

'00 Exp, 16" tires, 4.10's, 5r55e trans-
3000 RPM = ~ 80 MPH. OD On
3000 RPM = ~ 60-62 MPH OD Off.

Hope that helps. You may want to get the codes checked.

Thanks Mbryda!!

So is my tranny the same as the one posted above? Does it matter what model tranny I need to have to run or suppose to run with the 4.10's in it?

I have an 1996 Explorer EB.

Thanks

Not sure what year they switched to the 5r55e. But, If memory serves me right, the 4r44e/A4LD is basically the same thing as the 5r and the final (OD) gear ratio is the same, so your numbers should be similar regardless of trans.

Mbryda thanks again :)

So if I was the run codes on it, what can be done if there was some kind of error? Do they reset the computer or change something out (sensor or something like that) that will make the RPM's rev where they suppose to be?

I do not think the Tranny needs rebuild it seems to shift fine and tows my boat great. I am hopeing for a computer reset or something like that. :)

Only us Gen 1 X's have the A4LD, you will have the 4R55E on yours so your numbers should be the same.

First thing I would try is crawl under and ensure all electrical connections at the tranny are tight. You might also have a stuck or crapped out OD solenoid.
