I have swap in process..
Explorer
1998 SOHC to 1999 OHV

I am taking the complete powertrain from the 1998 SOHC and puting it in the 99. I am switching the computer and that harness over, plus all of the trans wiring. My question is do I have to switch any other harneses?
The :p ;) one I am concerned with is the big one that plugs into the firewall.. it goes to the engine and also has all of the other underhood wiring connected.. that would be a big job.. Even though the plug is the same..I have noticed that it has a few different pins in it. Anyone been there???

just to clearify this

What I am doing is puting the 1998 4.0 SOHC in the 1999which originally had a 4.0 OHV in it .

Nobody told me about PATS!!

I got this all done ..no start... Luckily I have the donor vehicle here in my yard. I think if I take the PATS module and the key cylinder from it it will go? Will try this today... I hope that will do it...anybody know of anything else I will run into??

I saw a post about repinning the harness ...I wont have that trouble will I?

OH my. You can have your PCM flashed to work with the 99's original PATS module.
Or you can swap the module from the new drivetrain into the truck.

Trhe PATS module goes with the engine's computer and works with the key otherwise the computer will not start the truck.

I switched the PATS and Key over and she is running great...I will drive her to the ford garage when I get it on the road and change the lock cylinder back and have the right keys for the vehicle flashed, that way I wont have a different one for the doors.... I found that I had no Oil pressure gauge when I started it up.. Had to rewire 1 pin in the harness for ckt 253....not bad. I have only to charge the AC and see if that works ..so far everything else is sweet.

Nioce work! I bet you have a BIG smile, trust me I KNOW the feeling a couple times over now :)
