Borg-Warner 44-05.

ok well apparently mine is broken so which other year can i swap out a transfer case with? ive already got it disconnected i just dont wanna take it apart and run the risk of making it worse.

98-01 should bolt up and plug in.

I also need to find out which transfer case I have

I have a 2002 XLS with a 5R55E transmission.

Also, under fast acceleration, it feels like the tranny is slipping. I hear thumping and feel the thump. When I accelerate slowly, no thump. Please don't say then don't accelerate fast.

I also hear a slight clanging when I go from forward to reverse or vis versa.

Are these related problems or 2 different problems.

no this is the same problem i have. the problem is in the transfer case, or the differentials, not the transmission. the clunking forward and reverse could be slack in the driveshaft due the gears engaging in the tcase, or worn gears in the diff (not likely). ive torn apart my diffs many times and i just had my tranny rebuilt so the only thing left is the tcase. i brought truck to a close friend/tranny specialist practicing for over 15 years, and he told me there might be a problem with the chain inside the tcase, for the problem relating to the slipping feeling. i am in the same boat and i have taken my tcase off now im going to take it apart this week when i get a day off, i'll let you know the verdict.

Thanks Dude! I'll wait for what you find. The last time this happened (clanging and slipping) I had to have the tcase replaced. Now it's happening again. Maybe it's a poor design or maybe my mechanic put in an over-used tcase to save money.

Glad I joined this site!

so we've been haaving tornadoes and all kinds of crazy nasty weather down here the last couple of days and i havent been able to get outside and under the truck to take the tcase out. however i did call around a few shops for replacement tcases and from what i understand, the only tcase that will work with the 2001, is the 2000-2001 model 1354 borg warner 44-05.

my question is where do we purchase replacement parts for the tcase internals, seeing as how advanced and napa only have the gasket and seal kits. im going to need a new chain or gear or whatever is broken.

the 2000-2001 model 1354 borg warner 44-05.
There is no "1354 borg warner 4405" -- the 1354 and the 4405 are two different model transfer cases made by Borg Warner. What you have, as stated earlier, is the Borg Warner 4405.

ok, so which other vehicles have the 4405 and where can i buy replacement parts for the internals

And correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldnt the 97 also work? You would just ignore the rear VSS sensor.

all the junk yards ive called said only the 2000-01 models are interchangable
