Tonite my friend and I decided to fire up the Torpedo Heater and install the KKM Kit. I was hopeing that it would help with my lack of power problem it's had since I bought it ( 2 mo's ago )....
With the garage all toasty warm we pop the hood and start eye-balling the task at hand. Remove the top of the air box. Found it was NOT properly mated to the bottom part of the airbox! It had at least a one inch gap between the top and bottom sections! No air going thru the air filter at all!!! All the air was getting sucked around the top of the filter into the MAF. Check the MAF: It wasn't pretty!!! Explains the "Check Engine" light coming on during hard accellerations! Pulled the Bottom section of the air box out after removing only ONE bolt: Snaps that hold the box were long since broken off, probably by that nice kid at Rapid Oil (Previous Owner Spanking Required here)....
The vaccuum lines were still connected, which means it was constantly drawing vaccuum to a heat riser that wasn't even part of the intake assembly anymore! So, I plugged the hose (as stated in the instructions)...Mounted the KKM and found that one of the existing airbox mounting plate bolt holes lines right up with one of the two support brackets the KKM comes with! Looks really nice, the hood closes without hitting the KKM, I cleaned the MAF sensor and Whaa-laa!!!
It instantly brought a smile to all when we fired it up! YES, we pulled the battery leads to force the 'puter to rethink itself. Nice throaty sound, and BEST OF ALL it fixed the lack of power problems it's had since i bought it! She really GOES now!!! Passing gear after 45 miles an hour was non-existant before : NOW it works normally!!!!!
I'm so happy!!! sniff
See ya'll at Moab!
