I had to fight with the ford gut to put mine in. He did not recommend them. He said the prongs heat up in ford engines too much & brake off, causing cyclinder damage. He said he had 2 X's with this problems in the garage waiting for new engines. Although I had these in my other truck & had no problems for 100K miles, & 2 sets of plugs.

There have been a few discussions on the board about this if you do a search on Bosch. The short version is that the +4's really don't work any better than the "Standard" Bosch platinum plugs. The spark will take the path of least resistance every time it fires, so even though the spark path might change which prong it jumps to each time it still only generates one spark per firing. Basically, +4's are a way to clean out your wallet more without improving performance.

Well I had it explained this way to me by my superduty all around mechanic. He is a one man shop. If you can find a shop like that good place to go. Ok here it is put the same maker of plugs as the vehicle in it. They kind of build the engine around the plugs. Bosh for German, European.... Denso for Japan and Autolites for Ford and GM (holds nose)

travis' dad works for bosch and he hooked me up with a set of 4+ for free, and i also got a pair of micro edge wiper blades for free. what a great man travis!

You people don't seem to listen too well. I have seen sooooooo many people wanting their money back for buying Bosch plugs with the hopes that they are gonna have dragster super duper monster race trucks after installation. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!! Stick with Autolite plugs. Just because you saw a commercial with a big blue lightening bolt on it doesn't mean that spark plug is going to be a lightening bolt in your car.

IT IS JUST A COMMERCIAL!!!!!!

Look for other ways to make your Exploder special, cuz you aren't going to find it in your spark plugs!!!

Sincerely,

A former Bosch representative

P.S.--- Bosch wiper blades stink also. Sorry to be so harsh...No offense Jas84!!!

actually, they are a lot better than stock and a few other brands i have tried, i dont know what you are talking about

Man you sound very disgruntled. I hope your info is fact, & not because you hate Bosch. I bought the wipers. They work great. I got the plugs, & wires for free when I bought the X. So to spend more money on different ones, when I had a set didn't make sense. Do they work? yes, Do they increase performance? Don't know, really don't care. They were free.

Hi guys,

I just purchased Aut0-Lite wires and champion copper plus plugs any opinions.

Thanks!!!!!

i'm on my second pair of bosch platinums. They run fine. I've also ran auolite platinums. They work fine too. No difference between the 2 that i could tell. Buy what ever is on sale at the time. Personally i like NGK plugs.

ooooohhhh...... I do sound a bit disgruntled. Sorry about that. That is what a few hours of Heineken's and a keyboard will do to you.

What I was trying to say was that I used to sell Bosch parts and had alot of people return platinum plugs and were very dissatisfied. They were almost always on American cars. I even tried them on my old S 10 and had to take them out. From experience I have noticed that Bosch parts really seem to work well with British and German cars.

As for the wiper blades: I used to drive a snow plow truck. I would put Bosch blades on since I get them cheap from work. Those things would always get ice and snow stuck in them and make my job a pain. So I guess my grudge with the blades is somewhat personal.

In reality, I like Bosch...I really do. I would just recommend staying away from Bosch parts for American cars. Oh yeah, don't buy thier rebuilt starters and alternators for American cars either.

Sorry if I offended anyone. *Sanchez hits himself in the eye*

I just wanted to say that I bought the +4's and the bosch premium wires and installed everything myself and I have not had any problems what so ever. I probably did buy into it cause of the ads and stuff but I just wanted to show that I haven't had any problems with them at all.

RE: Bosch Plugs not recommended

I had to fight with the ford gut to put mine in. He did not recommend them. He said the prongs heat up in ford engines too much & brake off, causing cyclinder damage.

Does this problem occur with the regular Bosch platinums as well? Or just the X4s?

I betcha that the whole plug failing thing is just a fabricated excuse not to fix an engine under warranty. After the engine lets go we can assume it could take the plug w/ it right?

Over 70k on B4+

60 k on the x Sold the truck before the plugs wore out

10 k on the B4k still going strong

Service has to watch out.

Technically the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act says that unless a manufacturer provides replacements for free (ie. plugs, air filters, tires, etc.), they cannot void the warranty because one uses an aftermarket part. Now if the company can PROVE that the part DIRECTLY caused the failure, then they can say that. The good thing is that this Act puts the burden of proof on the manufacturer. So if the service guys can prove that the plug failed and cause dthe damage, then it's not covered. Of course if you disagree, you can get a third party arbitrator, and the company must abide by his/her decision.
A friend of mine took his honda into the dealer to get his windshield washer system fixed, and they told him that he'd have to pay because he had turbocharged it. Well, he knew a thing or two about the law (he's a lawyer), and told them that. They changed their mind. Obviously they had no way to show that the turbo had caused the windshield sprayer to fail. But these guys will try anything to get out of doing a repair. Pretty sad.

my Ranger's engine is from Germany and the tranny is French.

so Bosch plugs and wires with Esso (i think they are French) tranny fluid would *only* make sense.... hmmm, what's a good, GERMAN oil to use?

or perhaps i should use Shell oils and gas, since they are Dutch, or perhaps BP?

Bosch 4's are the only plugs that I've heard of that will loose a prong. I have had them in for about 30K miles and no problems. However I do plan on changing them this fall and going back to motorcraft plat. plugs. Even if the price was the same, why take a chance. Your probably not going to run them more that 50K anyway. You can buy AutoZone lifetime wires and Motorcraft(Ford) plugs and still have money left for wiper blades.

Man I run these plugs and they do make a big differnce when it comes to re-starting the truck when its hot. It no longer tends to die or idle really rough like.

add another to the list of guys that have changed to the +4's and have had no problems and I've actually been quite impressed with the results.True I've only had em in there for about 1000 miles and about two months, but still... they seem much better then the stock plugs, which weren't horribly corroded or anything.
