OK, I know I must be doing something wrong or missing something.

I have a 2003 Explorer NBX with the 4.6 V8 in it.

How the hell do I change the oil filter??? That is, I know how to change a "normal" oil filter - unscrew, rescrew, done. But I can't get the damn thing out of the engine bay!!!

The only way I've done it do far is to loosen up the bottom cooler mounts that sit in front of the little oil catch scoop, then pull and pull and work really hard. But it has to be easier than taking a bunch of stuff apart.

Others have recommended trying to take it out through the fender well (and I've heard this works on the older trucks)....but with the new truck, there's a pump and some lines running right past the space to get to the filter! I can see it plain as day - but it ain't coming out there!!

Any ideas??

Thanks!!

Well, I don't know about the 4.6's, but I know on my '00 3.0 XLT Ranger, I used to have to loop it back around the Steering Shaft. There definately is a way to get it out of there without "Forcing" it, but it may not necessarily be the easiest way in the world.

Good Luck =)

If you do find a way to get it out, it might be worth puncturing the filter to drain the oil first so you don't get it all over the place.

I think it's time you consider an oil filter relocator
