Maybe your transfer case is shot...

lol ill bee pissed i just bought this tranny for 300 4x4 works just the low range wont or maybe im pushing the wrong buttion first ideas???

Lol...
are you holding the brake in, and having it in neutral when your trying to engage 4low?

lol idk if i held the brake in but neutral yes im gonna try that but do i press 4x4 buttion then the low range or both at the same time lol i feel so stupid but ive never owned a 4x4 before

lol dont feel stupid, i learn from my own dumbass mistakes like that too, just press the brake in neutral, and press 4LO and it should come on...if not, then we'll have to wait for someone else to come in and help, im not too smart with 4x4 yet haha :p:

lol i guess thats the price we pay to own a 4x4... im gonna try that thanks man

Haha yeah np good luck.

...im just glad I never have REALLY needed it...there was once where I pathetically got stuck at the entrance of my neighborhood last winter, there was a huge buildup from a drift so i was gonna go through it.....NOPE lol

lol but i like to climb rocks and stuff so i want it to work and need lol

The shift motor is probably bad. It's pretty common for these and an easy fix. Search around the site for the shift motor and you'll find exactly what you need.

I'm also going to move this thread to the trans, tcase forum.

Good luck.

Isnt the shift motor the t-case?

No, the shift motor is a motor that is bolted to the outside of the transfer case that turns a rod to shift the transfer case. In a bind (like on the trail) you can pull the shift motor and shift it with a pair of pliers.

Assuming you doing it right, (brake, neutral, not moving), its probably the shift motor.. and there is a very good "shift motor rebuild" thread on here..

It's a 5 speed, the clutch needs to be held down, not the brake, just make sure you aren't moving.

They both need to be held down. At least on my 95 it is that way.

why wont my low range work

You've already been told the answer to your question/problem.

It is the Shift Motor. Search. There is a WHOLE rebuild diary on here. It is VERY WELL documented with photos and thorough instructions. I have done it a couple times myself.

Good luck,
Ryan

Well my explorer is the biggest piece the door fell off goin 50 on the interstate this morning

How the hell did you manage that?
