right like close to the shore line, ill just sink

That's what I did...creeping along my front end just sunk and I knew right then I was F'ed. I tried to reverse slowly but the rear just dug in. I had to get winched out by a passerby.

Just stay on teh hard-pack above the high tide line and you'll be fine. When I was out there last year (or was it the year before??? CRS setting in) I rented a Blazer to get down there. I could have rented a small car though, as it turned out that there were cars all over the place. There was a Cavalier parked right next to me on the beach, so it can't be that bad.

Watch out trying to cross the stream outlets if it's been raining. Lots of people have major issues there. I've seen some horror stories.

Airing down will help, just be sure that you have a way of airing back up after play time is over.

air down to around 10psi front and rear and you will be fine.

i took my 97 4.0 2wd to pismo and got stuck 5 feet off of the sand highway with my tires aired up, aired them down and was able to climb up comp hill no problem. and that was with open diff and stock tires too.

if you can just gun it and run it. the wheel speed will keep you unstuck. the truck wont go as fast as the wheels so dont worry about the trailer. plus the quad can handle itself :p

I am going down myself the Aug 21 and stay a week (from Nevada). I have a 1997 sport SOHC 4 wheel dr so I don't think I will have any problems. Have't been there in ten years but used to go a half a dozen times year when I lived in Salinas. I don't think anything will be different than before. When going in watch out for the creek depth. Most of the time it is only inches deep but have seen it like 18 inches deep. I usually stop and wait for somebodu else to cross then go. If you stay on the hard packed sand you won't have any problems till it is time to turn up into the soft sand to set up camp. I would drop air press down to about 15 pounds. No more than that and you can go easy and make it back to some place and air back up. At this point I would unlaod the Quad. When you start into soft sand get speed up to at least 15 miles pr hr or so. Don't stop while facing up hill. Make wide u turn and park facing downhill so you can take off again without getting stuck. What ever you do keep a lite foot on gas petal. Go easy.

Good luck---Art

thats basicallt what i di this weekend, i went a day earlier and left thursday and got back sunday, and i was able to take my brothers 4x4 bronco, all my 2wd freinds got stuck. had to pull them out, and it was a blast.
the funniest thing happend, i was ridin the quad i hualed that was my freinds dads, well while night ridin with no lites, we rode the fence line and their was an fence layed down so we had to go, but of course my paddles wraped the wire fence around each rear tire like a tootsie roll, so this guy with a train horn comes out of nowhere in a f350, and jumps out and starts hackin away at the wire, didn't say a word till he was done cutin it away. oh and the other side of that hill was like an 80 ft drop like no incline at all. so whatch out for the fence with a big hole in the middle, with one side still wrapped like a tootsie roll.

Put on your kevlar undershorts...

By your own admission, you attempted to cross into a restricted area. Bad, bad idea for a number of reasons, the least of which is it was OFF LIMITS! Whether it was crossing into a restricted area that the local constabulary had roped off for environmental protection or marking as a dangerous area, or if it was a border fence that protects natural habitat or private property, it was an area into which you, as an off-roader in the park, were not supposed to be venturing.

Additionally, riding after dark with no lights.... not exactly the brightest thing do do out there. Not a good idea under the best of circumstances, let alone at a place like Pismo.

Glad you had a good time, but in the words of Dustin Hoffman, BAD FORM!!! It's behavior like this that gets responsible ORV operators banned from public areas like Pismo.

it was all fun, the fence just blocked off a steep hill, it was an restricted area for inexperienced riders so thats why others broke it down so we could have more fun, with a challenge, no one can get banned if the rangers dont know about it. the no lights issue wasn't much of a challenge especially with a full moon.
