I have an '05 Sport Trac that is equipped with factory Class III hitch. It is wired with the flat 4 plug and the round socket for larger towing. Would it be pre-wired for hooking up a brake actuator under the dash from the factory?

Did it come from factory/dealer with the towing package? If so there should be a plug/harness connector already under dash for your brake controller. The round (5-wire) plug if installed correctly includes wire (blue) for trailer brakes. Still need a controller though!

My 03 did not come with a hitch from the factory, so I had one put on and the trailer place that installed my controller put the wiring in.

05 Sport Trac Wiring for electric brakes

Just bought a used ST & am in exactly the same position with an already installed classIII hitch & round 7 connector at the rear. I have a Teknosha electric brake control to install later this week & I understand that you need to purchase a jumper kit that plugs directly into an underdash socket & the back of the actuator but I have yet to do the work. I've spliced in several activators directly into the existing wiring & it's not difficult if you use a meter -just don't reverse polarity -it will blow the activator. There's good info here:
http://www.bradstrailer.com/generic_wiring.htm
which tells you basically the pin-out:
brake control-----------ford harness
white-------------------white
blue--------------------blue
red---------------------green
black-------------------red
I say later this week, but first I've got to get a water leak problem resolved so I've gutted the inside -seats out, rubber mat lifted.
