Hello,

I've got a 98 explorer V8 that doesn't like to restart when hot without cranking way too long. It always starts, but right after, you can smell gas like I spilled a gallon on the ground. When it's cold it fires on the first turn. It's been this way since I bought it so I can't say anything about previous symptoms. I had a severed fuel line that some moron cut the stainless braiding off the flexible section below the master cylinder and clamped a piece of old air hose over the top of that was leaking all over the place. I cut the collar off the compression clamps and replaced the line with high pressure fuel line and the high pressure clamps. Doesn't leak a drop there now. Any ideas what's wrong here? The only code holding my check engine light on is a "low egr flow". I do have a dime size hole in the exhaust between converter 2 and 3 right behind a sensor screwed into the exhaust pipe if anyone thinks that's related. Thanks!

I think if you address the known issues, and get the PCM reset, your truck might start more reliably--

yes, a leak right next to an O2 sensor could cause a CEL, however, It could be another problem with the egr system.

Good luck
