I have a 96 XLT w/4.0 when it is warm outside and I have driven for a while then turn the engine off for 5 or 10 minutes it turns over but will not start. After the engine cools down for another 20 - 30 minutes it starts fine. It has only done this when the outside temp is up in the 70's. I have only had it a few months and it has never done it in cooler weather. I want to get it fixed before the weather turns warm. Can anyone help?

This problem is sometimes caused by a bad crankshaft position sensor (CPS)

Thanks I will check it out.

OR a fuel system problem OR a starter/battery wiring problem.

Tell me after it sits and is warm does the starter crank and it just wont turn over?
If yes then you need to check if the fuel pump is priming and the fuel rail has pressure.

If not then this points to a battery terminal / wire feed / key switch / starter/wiring issue.

Believe it or not this is a common topic on this forum for your truck/engine.
It may be tricky to search for, unless you know there things.

Crankshaft position sensor
fuel pump relay / fues
fuel rail pressure
battery wires
starter solenoid / relay / wires

I suggest a search to help you get stated troubleshooting.

hope that helps....
