SOA (Roughly 5" correct?)

and 4" Springs and drop down brackets in the front?

Would the pitman arm need to be changed?

the SOA is around 6 inches. You would need 6 or 5.5 springs in the front. And yes you will need a new pitman arm
 






Alright, so I'd need the 6" coils and the accompanying drop backets, along with a pitman arm.

Thats it correct? I've done a search on the forum but can't really find much. What do the brackets go for? Are there any other vehicles that have coils that would work? (I doubt it since it's another 6" on top of already big coils.)
 






Well you could do 4 inches up front with coils and brackets and then not do a SOA and just lift the rear springs
 






Search for 5.5 SuperLift or 6 Skyjacker or 4 SuperLift. There should be TONS of information on this subject
 






well i did the 4" tuff country up front and a soa in the rear, but the springs are not tuff country, think they were worn 5.5" skyjackers,alighnment isnt a prob if there is camber adjustment on the new drop brackets if you want larger springs other than the 4" and mine is a sport with the overload removed.(front is now saging bad now) "dont buy used springs" id say go with the 4" and add the f150 lower seats and take out the overload in the rear, if you dont tow. The rear will be really flexy
*so in all it depends on the kit you order, tuff country and a few others have a camber adjustment on the drop brackets, so now you have more to adjust to compensate for larger springs, factory adjuster and the drop brackets adjuster. I used f150/expedition/navigatror cam bolts for more adjustment because im going 6"
 






Yikes, the drop brackets with eccentric adjusting bolts in them scare me, drop brackets are weak enough. They wont be needed if you lift it correctly.

Skyjacker only makes 4, 6, and 8" coils, no 5.5 thats Superlift.

If you want to improve the ride, not just lift it, extended radius arms are needed.

Either buy a new kit or buy a used kit for the front, dont try to piece components from different lifts together.
 






why would it weaken it... its still is the same but an accentric bolt many aftermarket bolt suppliers have grade 8 bolts for them..like i have found.with the maybe gr 5 bolt that comes in kits i see that a prob, a bolt half the thickness can break easier.but it is just way too easy to do alighnments now..I do it my self at work, I guiess that im wrong on the springs still dont know what they are, but i know they arnt tuff country.
 






grade 5 is actually better, the grade 8 ay be stronger but the grade 5 wont sheer as easy, hence the reason you see grade 5 used in suspensions.

Dont get me started on drop brackets, especially the Tough Country, the entire bracket is suspect not jsut the eccentric adjuster cam and bolt.

TTB drop bracket kits dont hold up to heavy abuse, the taller the drop the worse it gets. Its not just your brackets I dont like its all of them.
Now with that said alot depends on how you drive, what the truck is used for (how much abuse you throw at it) and also what brand/type brackets you have.

There is no need for adjusting the pivot if you have the correct amount of coil (lift) compared to your drop bracket (axle pivots) and the correct camber shim (up to 2.75 correction on a 4x4)

You dont have to justify your new lift to me, I say run what ya brung and love to see any explorer get lifted, but I will give my opinions on these forums based on my experience and what I have seen over the years, which when it comes to the TTB, I like to think is quite a bit.
 






I'm not looking for a great ride. Im just looking to keep up with my buds on the trail and a stock sport wont do it. I also dont have a lot of money.

SOA costs next to nothing, coils and brackets ill just special order through someone in the club.

Thats why I'm asking. I want to lift it, but not body lift, thats queer. This seems like the strongest, cheapest lift for me. I have all the time in the world and people to help.
 






buy a used Skyjacker kit with extended arms, I see them for sale on here all the time.
People are going solid axle left and right, this means TTB kits are used for sale ALOT and allows you to get extended radius arms which IMO are needed to improve the trucks off road ability, otherwise you are just lifting the truck, not improving the suspension travel.
 






I see on the gr 5 that can stretch and not snap as a gr 8 is less likley to stretch but snap, I will suffer that fait, i have tuff not tough country one is a bit weaker, it will be gusseted for a little more strengh...anyone can lift to there likings and usage. i see it much easyer to adjust the cam bolts than just the factorys shims, but 95% people just have some one else to to there alighnments. I say a lift sould be based on usage and adjustability and strength
 






thats right :) I do my own alignment and then take it to my alignment guy who still uses a tape measure.

grade 8 wont fail, but that is why you see grade 5 in suspensions.
Gusseting is a GOOD IDEA.
 






tape measure!!! id never pay for that....i put it on a Hunter alighnment rack and have the computer tell me how much to adjust it or adust to my own likings...
my last word would be to search and see how others are lifted and that will give you an idea...
 






um my alignment guy is the shizznit, those lazers are for alignment monkeys who dont really understand what they are doing and why, besides a little toe in on a truck like mine is a good thing.

trust me I know what I am doing and talking about, especially when it comes to the TTB. Also he charges me $20 and it takes all of 15 minutes. Hes been doing alignments for about 35 years and still uses the tape measure because that is the BEST way, especially on lifted trucks.

Off-road adventures advertizes class II skyjacker 6" lifts for $1097 cheapest ive seen

other places want 1300 for it, and if thats the case ill just spend the extra 300 on the Camburg entry level kit =)
 






Locally a while back (before I knew anyone that was a dealer for Keystone), I went to a place called "Truck and Van World". They wanted $1200 for a 4" lift kit, for a 4 door, and it didnt even include shocks...

Yeah, most kits dont include the 'little stuff.'

From what i heard, skyjacker shocks arrent all that great anyway.

1200 is average price for that kit. still camburg is only 400 more heheheh :D
