OK, so on Thursday I had the cruise control on while I was driving to work. I slowed down for traffic, but the brakes didn't disengage the cruise like usual. I figured that the cruise must get its signal from the brake light switch at the pedal, so I figured that I had no brake lights either and the switch had gone bad. Sure enough, no lights. I checked the fuse, it looked fine, but I replaced it just to be sure. Still no lights. So I replaced the switch, and still no lights! Now, I know that current is getting to the bulbs because the turn signals and hazard flashers still work fine, it's just the brake lights that don't work when you press the pedal. I thought maybe I had gotten a bad switch, so I returned it and got another one, but it still didn't work.

So now I'm thinking it may be a problem with the wiring harness right at the connector to the switch, before it joins the main lines that run to the lights. Anyone have any ideas? I'm dropping it off at my mechanic tomorrow because I don't have any time this week to work on it. At least I'm getting better gas mileage driving the Jetta to work.

mike I would take your test light and ckeck your hot wire frome the fuse box down to the light switch you have to have power to the switch for the switch to make the connection for the lights to work
