Xplorer82's Rust Restoration & Body Work
Well to start off I am making this thread to follow my progress and hopefully get tips/hints when needed. i am by far a "body man", but i have had some experience just thought it would be smart to start a thread in case someone see's something i dont/missed/ect.
i have owned this truck for 6+ yrs. when i bought it, it had No rust on the body, well yrs of driving in these Ohio winters(and believe me, i have fun in the winter ) has took its toll. For the last 3 yrs once winter breaks i try and control the rust. usually just a good sanding then filler for where i needed it, Well that is getting old and rust is growing in other areas now, So........ Here we go, im going to try and do this right and hopefully get a few years break, Ha. For now it will just stayed primed (section by section as i go) and hopefully getting painted before summer is over.
I will get pics of the areas i am going to be hitting. but this past weekend i started on the rear PS quarter panel. so i took in progress pictures of that, forgot to take before pics.
I started by sanding and got down to the body filler from last year. chipped that all out and found the rust. I took the cut off and zipped out all the pieces i needed to remove and hit it w/Ospho and let it sit over night. i then cut & bent up some 22g sheet metal took out the Lincoln and tack welded it in place and went to town welding. (dont mind my beginner welding in the pics. im learning as i go).
I used Bondo's Metal Fill to fill in all the little cracks & few burn throughs, not to many nor big (couple coats, sanding in between)
coming along.
and that's where its at. i am priming it tomorrow weather permitting.
more to come.
