I'm sure you get this a lot but I need help:

I started on the now INFAMOUS Firestone Wilderness A/Ts but then Mr. Nasser was nice enough to buy me a brand new set of Pirelli Scorpion A/Ts. The Scorpions are ok. I know they are an agressive tread - and boy do they sound like it. I can handle the noise, I just think they are not as good in the snow as I had hoped. Don't get me wrong though - they are way better than the Firestones were.

This is what I've had recommended to me:

BF Goodrich/Michelin
Bridgstone Dueler
Cooper Discoverer
Les Schwab Wild Country

What do you think? (btw, they are 255 70 16s for a 99 Explorer Sport - 2Dr) I'm heading over to tirerack next to read reviews :)

Thanks!

edit: oh, one more thing, I've got about 70K miles on my tires now so that should tell you how I drive and I rotate my tires!)

you left the choices your considering very broad. I had pirelli scorpian AT's right before what i have now and that is Bridgestone Dueler AT REVO's. They are amazing. aggresive tread, high treadware rating (if you got 70k out of your AT's you'll get 80+ out of these.) they are a little higher priced but very much worth it. I have about 5-6k on mine. no sign of wear. good luck

Thanks. I really like the reviews I've been reading about the Revos but I spoke to a guy at our local tire dealer and he said Bridgestone has had a bunch of recalls. Now I don't know if he's just trying to sell me Toyos instead (but he said he can get me what I want) - I'll probably just order from Tire Rack anyway.

EDIT: I checked NHTSA and I didn't see any unusual recalls :(

Watch the shippin prices at Tire Rack. they went up

i got a set of the dueler revo a/ts a few months ago in that same size for my 97 sport. they have been awesome so far (snow, heavy snow, mud, dirt, rain, gravel). i got them through tirerack and i have been recommending them to everybody...

We have the Firestone Destination LEs on out '02 and they were excellent in the snow. Friend has the Destination ATs and he said they're awsome as well.

I highly recomend BFG Long Trails, very good tires, if you rotate every 7500 miles when your at 50plus thousand miles, looks like hardly any wear is on them,,, Just my 2 cents,

Thanks, I noticed that! I actually ordered the revos from Costco - they should be in Monday or Tuesday!

I got a larger set of REVO's the first week I had the ST, I like them also. Not too noisy for as aggressive as they look, great in rain and snow, went off-road twice in dirt and mud and they did well.

Rims are a matter of personal taste, personally I like American Racing Baja's or Pro Comp 1069's but that's me.

Hmmm........Tires?

Well I am a BFG guy through and through. I have ran them on every car/truck I have ever owned and never regreted it.

Their standard Radial T/A is an awesome high traction tire for the streeters.

The Long Trail's are a good city driven suv tire, they'll also perform fair offroad as long as you stay out of the gummy mud or loose rock.

The All Terrains are one of my favorite tires for a balanced approach. They are quite agressive tread, good road manners, excellent wear (easily 60K), and amazing offroad/snow traction. The only thing I don't like about them is they get clogged up in gummy mud, and they like to pick up and carry gravel.

The Mud Terrains are also an amazing tire. They are a great tread design offroad, and I have absolutely no complaints in that arena. On road however they tend to wander a bit at higher speeds, vibrate at low speeds, and basicly have relatively poor road manners compared to the At's. Supposedly they wear very well also, though I have not run them long enough to tell.

Anyway there is my .02

IMHO, Bridgestone Revo's are the best all around tire! But strictly for snow Cooper M+S are great in snow and ice.
