Just Curious to what Oil and Oil Filters you guys use.

Right now i use the Motorcraft Filters, and i use the Valvoline Max-Life in my T-bird, and i will probably put the same thing in my Explorer cause i haven't changed it yet.

i use FRAM oil filters (only because they're easy to get on and off with the grip tape ends). and Castrol Syntec Blend, 5W30 . Change every 3K on the dot.

As long as you change every 3000 miles it doesnt really matter what brand or kind you use. And you dont really need full synthetic unless its high performance. I use the blend because i have a lot of miles.

FYI: the only difference with synthetic is that motor oil itself gets more viscous with heat (thicker). Synthetic is designed to withstand heat better.

Its all personal preference bud... do what you and your wallet are willing to

oil and filter

Ford FL1a filter and mobil synthetic blend 5w-30. Full sythetic has the best specs, and if I lived in the frozen north or a hot desert I would run it for sure. However, independent test have shown that even the lowest K-Mart on sale oil is more than adequate for the job. You will get people that say synthetic oil is the only way to go and won't let dino oil touch their vehicle even though they fill it with dino fuel. In the end, pick whatever you want. You won't go wrong.
As far as filters go, after reading some oil filter studies, I have decided that the Ford Motorcraft Fl1a is the best filter for the money.

not quite, no oil gets more viscous with heat, it just retains its viscosity better. 10W30 retains viscosity better than 30, and synthetic 10W30 retains viscosity better than petro 10W30.

Look at it like a vicosiity vs. temp graph. As temp rises, viscosity goes down. How fast the viscosity goes down is the difference in the oil.

I've been driving for almost 50 years and have used most brands of oil from the cheapest to Mobile1 in a great number of cars from VWs to a Vette. I've also used most of the major brands of filters. However, I always change the oil and filter at 3 to 4K miles and have never had an oil-related failure or problem.
I'm presently using a Motorcraft filter and Mobile 1 in my '01 Sport. This is probably the combination I'll stick with.

I use Motorcraft FL-1A filter and Mobil 1 5W-30 oil. I've been using Mobil 1 since I got my truck when it only had like 34k miles. Now it has 103k miles and it's still running strong and smooth.

Viscosity

Straight from Chem Lab results : "Motor Oil provides less protection at higher temperatures due to lower viscosity & lubrication"

That lab was done 2 weeks ago in my engineering chem lab at rutgers. All findings are the same- it not like my team just did the lab wrong. That is the intended result.

We then had to break down the chemical formulas and figure out why synthetic works better. Its due to hydrogen bonding and the setup of the compound.

*this doesnt mean motor oil is bad at all. it just makes a point of why someone would use synthetic over regular motor oil.

as for the 5W30 and 10W40 and numbers like that.. truthfully i have no clue exactly what they mean, but viscosity comes into play there somewhere.

I use 5W-30 Quaker State Synthetic and those cheap $1.97 oil filters at Wal-Mart.

Purolator Pure1 and Mobil Drive clean oil (the regular stuff you can get in a case for 13 bucks at sams). After youve witnessed a fram blow up, youll never use one again. :nono:

FL1a filter, and Mobil 1 10w30, or 5w30 which ever I have at the time. Change the oil every 10k and the filter every 5k.

I use the Motocraft filter and 10w30, whatever brand I feel like buying at that time.

I usually use either Motorcraft or Purolator filters and oil, I usually stick with conventional 5W30.

Filter- Purilator "Pur 1", Oil- Mobil 1.

for oil i use what ever is there at the time last time i used 10w40, and filters i use fram because i know the damn code for it and i do not have to use the lil computer that is there!! Wal-mart where else can you get motor oil, a fishing pole, a tv, and a big steak at a low price!!!

I use Castrol GTX 5w-30 and the Motorcraft FL1A Filter

Yeah i here Fram Filter just plainly blow

and they are more expensive then a Motorcraft Filter

oh and if you wanna get away with more expensive filter for only a couple bucks, you can always just throw the Motorcraft filter in a Super Tech Filter Box,
i haven't tried it yet, but from buying these items they never open the Oil Filter Box to check it out

Castrol GTX 10W40 and Fram for years.
