4r70w to 4.0 v6

looking to start modifiing my daily driver. the 4r55e trans needs to be replaced i have a friend with a 5.0 explorer that has a bad motor. basically i can have to trans for free. don't know if it will fit being mine in a 6cyl and his is a 8. Also are they're any performance upgrades for the v6 or should i be looking to buy a v8. any help will be apprechiated

the trans wont fit.
intake and exhaust, and a good tune are a good place to start for mods.

did ford put the 4r55e only in explorers? is there any other trans besides that that will?

no it was also in Rangers
with a 1996 you are limited to a 1996 auto transmission

UNLESS you do a V8 conversion, convert to a 700R4 auto, or a C4 auto

thinking about doing a v8 conversion. been having trouble finding stuff for the 6cyl.

a C4 will bolt up to the back of a 4.0 is that a OHV or SOHC

thanks still gonna look around, have a couple idea's. Don't know if i'm gonna modify the 6cyl or do a v8 conversion, or mabye try to find a small diesel engine. still thinking.
