Hi, 2002 Mounty 4.6 here, 170k miles,
I'm having an issue that I need help describing
so that I can better search for solutions.

What it's doing is this,
Transmission is performing as it should except,
when cruising around 60mph, in overdrive, every few minutes the rpms will drop (by 500 or so) and it feels like it just came out of gear. Then it will softly bump back in and cruise as normal. This repeats every 90 seconds or so especially when trans is cold.

Seems worse when cold, not as bad when warm. Not noticeable at all in stop and go driving.
No issues with other gears just OD, no flare, everything else feels solid.

Fluid and filter has been changed periodically, but not recently (18 months ago).

I figure this has a name or a term it is called but I dont know what that is. If I knew a better way to describe this it would be most helpful. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks

Have you checked the fluid level?
