positive battery cable to starter

Ford says the cable assembly is $172.50. Does the whole cable assembly need to be replaced? This seems to be a weak spot on Explorers.

I'd take some measurements and see how much cable you need. Most auto stores have universal battery to starter cables in various lengths. Going to be a ton cheaper. It seems that the cables generally go bad a few inches to a foot or so down the cable.
