Well, after a couple of years being away, I finally got a new explorer. With the new ones having 3rd row seats for the kiddies, I was able to convince the better half to trade in teh minivan.

Its a Medium Wedgewood Blue 2005 XLT. Has the class III/Iv towing package and a 3.73 axle and lots of bells and wistles!

Once I get used to driving a SUV (or dont mind a couple of scratches here and there) I may be hitting a few of the trails with some of you!

Thanks

Steven

Nice looking X you got there ntr

I don't know what it is, but Ford had a great design on those stock wheels for those Explorers. You did some very nice picking there. Good job and it looks very nice.

i love how the third gens don't have the humungous bumpers sticking out in the front and back. makes it look a lot nicer. i can't tell is that tan or grey interior?

Its the grey interior. We HATE the tan color. Tan is just wrong in an interior.

We went to the old four peaks trail today to test everything out. It all works, and it works good. The only complaint I have is those damn Michelin tires. I goot get a set of BFG AT KOs on that. Just have to figure out how big I can fit on there. Oh yeah, and see if I can get a good trade in allowance on the Michelins.

Any one know the max tire size I can get in there without rubbing?

Thanks

Steven

Tan versus Gray?

Me too, I always preferred the grey more than the tan interior. I have grey in my Explorer, but I have an Expedition EB that has a tan interior ... so I no longer would agree that TAN should not be an interior colour. But the Expedition interior tan seems like a very light, pale tan compared to the Explorer TAN. I wonder if they really are different shades of tan that Ford uses? Your 05 Explorer looks very nice...seems raised?? I've always wondered if these 2004/2005 Explorers can take a 31" x 10.50 R15 tire on them...or do they come with 16" rims? www.pacificislandsinfo.com/xplorer/explorer.htm Vincent taori@tvds.net

Nope, not raised. Thats the stock tires and rims. P235/70R16's. I have since put on LT265/75R16's. The new tires are 31.6 inches tall. Cant fit the 31 x 10.5 15s since the rims are 16's, but with a 31.6 inch tire in there now, it looks like a 32 will fit with very little rubbing. Im not sure if they make a 31 x 10.5 R16.

The 265/75R16s barely rub at full lock.A half inch turn of the wheel stops the rubbing.

31.6" for your LT265 70 R16 ... that is bigger than the 31" 10.50 R15 which is 30.8" I believe. I have P265 70 R17 on my Expedition EB and those are 31.7" I think so I would try to put them on my Explorer...would probably rub since I only have 1" clearance now. No, I never heard of 31 10.5 R16 but what you have looks nice.
