THAT won't make you stop on a dime.....

But this will:

13" Cobra Brakes up front...and Discs in the rear...

Ryan

well mine is 4wd and it stopps pretty damn goooood

Cool mod, did you have to change the master cylinder?

not yet but I got a boostermaster combo for $10out of a 96 limeted to put in

so what was involved in the swap?

a rear axle out of a second gen and some tweaking. That's about it.

thanks. after seeing this thread, i found the HOW TO: for the swap. i just did the entire front brakes down to all the line's even along with the wheel bearings and such, and planned on doing the rear's soon. but after seeing this, i saw a 2nd gen explorer with the full rear end last week at the local yard. im gonna price it out, id feel much better spending the cash and getting an upgrade out of it.

WOW!...

Those aren't on an Explorer though.....

What did that set run you?

I am contemplating the Brembo Cobra R brakes on the X, and putting my brakes on my daughters `67 Mustang....

lol. your gonna laugh. its on a 4 cyl ford probe. the brakes are sadly not even close to the biggest purchase on the car. FRONT brakes were about 1800. rear's, are about 600-700 so far building it from scratch. car has tons of mods like quaife LSD, REAL gt30r ball bearing turbo pushing 1.7 bar, fully built motor, SDS standalone computer, full cage, you name it, its done to it.

i was at the junkyard yesterday, and was poking at a 2nd gen X that had dual piston front calipers, and no gay slide pin like we have. is that something i can possibly just swap over? figured if i swap the hub, it might work, but i dont know the spline count on the axles, if there any different, or if the two different versions of 4x4 made this not able to be done.

I think the only way I could get my car to stop on a dime is to hit a tree. If I slam on the brakes the whole back end feels like its gonna come around haha. Front is good, drums suck! Oh well, nice mod

I like fords just as much as the next guy but come on man a PROBE!? lol but seriously The hubs on sec gen explorers are completly different as they use a sealed type bearing http://www.explorerforum.com/photopost/data/2/1342212-01-03_-_front_hub_inside.jpg. Then of course the control arms are different and so forth and so on. Also what have you done to the engine? 25psi of boost is quite a bit

Where did you go hunting for calipers? I have 12.75" rotors and better calipers, but I'd like to have much bigger pads. What is a K-sport caliper, and is there a feasible unit with very large pads for a 13" rotor and twin 1.75" piston area?

You cannot swap any of the brake parts between the 1st and 2nd gen. Explorers. Regards,

...Did you guys know that the Probe was ORIGINALLY going to be the 'New' Mustang?

I have even seen pics of the prototypes that were being built in Dearborn, and they even had 'Mustang' embossed in the rear apron.

I'm a bit late on this.... but would someone mind posting a link to the brake upgrade "How-to's"? Specifically, I would love step-by-step instructions on converting to discs in the rear, and cobra brakes in the front.

Thank you in advance.

I would love to put StopTech's on the truck..... they work great on the car, but I'm not looking to dent the wallet too hard. ;)
