I will be making a jig to be able to produce these on demand.
Assem1B.jpg

they are based on JDraper's design that he posted in his own thread http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=197119 but was never able to get his shop to make one and now no longer has an explorer

The jig will be adjustable and customizable to accommodate different features for different orders.

At the moment I have no job, and I am in need of money to cover the start up costs. But once I have that down I will have these for sale. They will be able to fit on first and second gens and I will probably be able to make them for other generations as well.

For now this thread will be for idea making and discussion until I can cover start up costs
$11.00 a piece 42000 lb capacity

Price figured yet?

no, but I will be making more plans with dimensions. Then I will get a quote for how much the steel will cost me for the bumper itself. The jig I can probably make out of scrap metal other than the base plate.

Can't wait for mine! :D

I think for the main piece of the bumper I should go with 3 x 5 rectangular tubing at 1/4" wall.

Should this be strong enough?

just finished a rough estimate of the materials, should be almost 300 in just steel. its going to be alot, anyone willing to pay that plus some for my hard work?

I will keep an eye on this thread. interested

group buy??

I'd pay 300 + labor and whatnot. I'm in for sure, just don't know when exactly.

Some eye candy!

Stic-o has the rear bumper very close to this design, and it looks great.

His wraps around the corners, thats about all I can see different.

Welshdragon79 has close to the same except a double jerry can holder.

And Froader has a diff swingout, but you can see how his bumper wraps the corners, and how wide and tall it is with the carrier open.

BAH!

Dont matter that stic-o don't have it any more. Just using the pic as a :rolleyes:reference.

I got the pic from froaders post, so ssssccccuuuuusseee meeeeee!!:p::p::p:

You got stic-o's first bumper? Cool!

Would you be able to manufacture something for us 3rd Geners too? Ideally I'd like to keep the stock bumper cover, but incorporate a swing out tire carrier too. Maybe weld some brackets to the metal bumper and have them come out of holes in the cover? Keep us updated!:D

as I have said before, I am looking for a job at the moment to cover start up costs and have just been informed that I will have to get a vendor account on here before I can sell anything like this.

sooooo, for now everything is on hold, sorry.

That's no problem, I was just curious as to whether you'd be GEN-exclusive or not--nevermind, just re-read your original post and saw that you'd be doing mainly 1st and 2nd GEN's, but could probably do 3rd and 4th as well.

Good luck on the job hunt! I will definitely be following this thread!

What are you going to use for Pivots? Spindle?

What are you going to use for Pivots? Spindle?

I hope so. I have some links at home to some very inexpensive spindle assemblies that would work great for this.
